Description

The San Angelo Food Bank (SAFB) is looking for a passionate and highly organized bilingual Case Assistance Navigator to join our team. Reporting to the San Angelo Branch Manager, this position is responsible for educating and providing application assistance for federal programs to potentially eligible persons within a 13-county territory. This position also plays a key role in supporting the Mobile Market Program which addresses hunger and nutrition in under-served communities and capacity building of the San Angelo Food Bank partner network. The Mobile Market program identifies where there are gaps in service in the emergency food network and provides neighbors with healthy food options across our 29-county service territory.

 

This position is based in the San Angelo region of West Texas and must be able to travel within the coverage territory. SAFB is prioritizing candidates in Tom Green County. Availability to work flexible hours to include some weekends/holidays and ability to work in all inclement weather conditions to include but not limited to heat, cold, and wet outdoor environments. This position requires possession of a current Texas driver's license, liability insurance and a clean driving record along with access to reliable transportation.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Employee must be able to perform each responsibility/duty consistently and within satisfactory program standards. This includes, but is not limited to, services to all incoming/outgoing calls, face-to-face client assistance relative to service delivery standards, and general inquiries related to the Client Services department. Support, demonstrate and incorporate San Angelo Food Bank Mission Statement, Vision, and diversity goals into each job responsibility.
  • Responsible for strict adherence to all outlined protocols regarding application security systems.
  • Maintain compliance to all HHSC/HIPPA policies and procedures.
  • Learn and understand application assistance through Your Texas Benefits while staying current on all policies and procedures for all federal benefits and SAFB programs.
  • Support and work towards maintaining individual application assistance goal for all federal benefits programs.
  • Submit completed applications and paperwork to HHSC within the appropriate designated time frame.
  • Recruit new potential partners for food access as directed by manager in strategic areas high need and low resources based on annual goal.
  • Schedule and perform new partner visits and onboarding training to cover all rules and regulations of the San Angelo Food Bank, Feeding America, and the Texas Department of Agriculture.
  • Conduct annual monitoring visits to all contracting agencies for customer service, retention, storage, distribution requirements and sustainability plans in accordance with TDA requirements. This includes periodically auditing, reviewing, and updating agency files, licenses, inspections and permits.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all aspects of department operation.
  • Read, respond and be responsible for information relayed via e-mail communications from SAFB staff, clients, and caseworkers.
  • Attend assigned education sessions, pre-screening sessions, and/or information booths at locations frequented by low-income persons.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, patience, and tact in public and in problem solving solutions.
  • Responsible for development and ongoing implementation of all mobile market activities to increase access and participation in the Mobile Market Program. To include partnership and volunteer, client intake and customer service, event planning and management, training, monthly distribution oversight
  • Monitor and ensure the collection of all data including those of participants of a mobile distribution as required by Feeding America and Federal guidelines.
  • Monitor the compliance of the mobile market in observing areas such as intake, food allocation and equity, food safety, customer service, etc.

Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent required; College degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Bilingual- English & Spanish (Required); Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge/exhibited compassion of hunger and poverty issues.
  • Skills in computer applications i.e., word processing and database management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to organize work, time, and self, attention to detail, accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other Food Bank staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to present a professional demeanor under a variety of conditions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in team structures.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends/holidays and in all inclement weather conditions to include but not limited to heat, cold, and wet outdoor environments.
  • Personal vehicle is required.

Work Environment

This job is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and frequently will require attendance at outdoor events. You may be required to drive to different locations with varying conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
