General Description:  The primary objectives of this position are to lead all aspect of the volunteer program across all segments of the organization and to ensure fulfillment of all scheduled volunteer shifts. This position oversees all aspects of the Volunteer Services Program as well as being responsible for the stewardship of existing volunteers and the recruitment of new volunteers (groups, individuals, etc). This position’s work week is Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays as needed.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead all aspects of volunteer activities including but not limited to development, implementation, stewardship and logistical coordination of activities in coordination with the Development Department.
  • Direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for volunteer engagement team.
  • Support the Volunteer Operations team and Volunteer Engagement Manager to identify and resolve problems, assigns work activities and projects, monitor workflow, review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Work with all volunteer leads across the organization to enforce and maintain policies and procedures relating specifically to volunteer activities in various parts of the facility (or off-site).
  • Work with all Food Bank personnel for efficient staffing of various programs and events.
  • Oversee the Corner Store and the Volunteer Lobby Coordinator, who oversees the onsite volunteer intake process and Court Appointed Program.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the community to procure volunteer labor, including corporations, schools, clubs and other organizations.
  • Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork.
  • To comply with and abide by all personnel policies and accept additional duties as assigned by the Chief Development Officer.
  • Greet volunteers, assign volunteer assignments and assist with sign-in process and present welcome at the beginning of assigned shifts.
  • To develop and maintain an ongoing program to acknowledge, steward and recognize volunteers through thank you letters and other appropriate means, including volunteer appreciation events and thank you emails.
  • Develop and maintain a “Plan of Action” for Volunteer Services, including both short and long-range goals and objectives.
  • Maintain a Salesforce volunteer database and tracks all volunteer hours by category monthly, and also oversees all manner of volunteer stewardship (certificates, recognitions, and appreciation events).
  • Act as liaison between the company and volunteers and mediates problems that may arise so that there is always a positive volunteer experience at the Food Bank.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate the Volunteer Operations Manager; provide or coordinate staff training, work with employees to correct deficiencies, implement discipline and termination procedures.
  •  Assist with coordination on all Monthly Volunteer Hours reports for all departments who work directly with volunteers and leads volunteers.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate a Volunteer Engagement Manager who schedules all volunteers for shifts via email and phone requests.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, social work, business or related field preferred; four years of work experience may be substituted, in lieu of degree. 
  • Minimum 5 years professional leadership experience managing full-time paid staff.
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, span-of-control, and performance. 
  • Working knowledge of volunteer development.
  • Experience working with volunteers and families of varying socio-economic backgrounds. 
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills. 
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel skills.   Database management experience.
  • Experience with Salesforce a plus.
  • Good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to manage work, time, and self.
  • Orientation to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other Food Bank staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to present a professional demeanor under a variety of conditions.
  • Valid Government Issued Driver’s License and proof of insurance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit, talk, hear, keyboard, and utilize fine manipulation and near visual acuity. The employee is occasionally required to walk, utilize gross manipulation, push, pull, reach, and stoop. The employee must occasionally lift, and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 

Work Environment

This job is performed in an indoor office environment and occasionally may require attendance at outdoor events. You may be required to drive to different locations with varying conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
