Volunteering is a great way to try something new, make new friends, obtain community service hours, or transition to a new stage of life.
Across the United States, more than 500,000 business leaders, community advocates, parents, teens and individuals who want to give back and support their neighbors volunteer at the Y. That’s because in 10,000 neighborhoods nationwide, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver positive personal and social change.
There are many benefits of volunteering including learning new skills, sharing your knowledge and expertise, meeting new people, finding a place to belong and making new friends all while helping your community improve its overall health. All volunteers will receive training to ensure safe and efficient operations for their selected role. We have a variety of rewarding volunteer opportunities available, such as:

Here are some positions that we are looking for Volunteers:
Touring Escort: During busy and peak times (especially on weekends) the Meadowlands YMCA needs outgoing and social volunteers to speak to members about our facility.
The duties included are as follows:
Greeting or saying goodbye to all persons entering or exiting the facility. Taking non-members or lost members to the appropriate room or activity they are looking for in the building. Guiding tours using acquired knowledge and engaging the person(s) that you are touring on a social level. This position includes standing and walking for long periods of time to effectively move throughout the building.
Communications Specialist: Available between 9am – 9pm, the Meadowlands YMCA needs someone who has experience in telephone communication and can discuss ongoing events, sympathize with complaints, and have a basic understanding of our ongoing activities and programs.
The duties included are as follows:
Making calls using - lists provided, reading materials, and learned knowledge as well as answering phones and questions about the facility. Providing basic customer service on follow ups and forwarding calls as necessary. Setting up appointments and encouraging potential members to come in for a tour.
Event Coordinator: Between the hours of 9am – 8pm, the Meadowlands YMCA has a need for volunteers to reach out to community organizations to set up tabling events for our various departments.
The duties included are as follows:
Using available resources (email, phone, flyers, mailers, etc.) to reach out in the name of the Y. This would be done under the supervision of the Membership Director/Assistant Director with a guided purpose of fostering community involvement. Specifically, using email to maintain communication with local entities and to further that relationship by attending planned events.
Volunteer Coordinator: To coordinate all volunteers for events at the Meadowlands YMCA.
Child Watch Assistant: During Child Watch hours (M-F 8am to 2pm & 4pm to 8pm as well as Sat/Sun 8am to 12pm) the Meadowlands YMCA needs a person to assist with numerous duties pertaining to the safety of the children in Child Watch.
The duties included are as follows:
To assist the Child Watch teachers with providing a fun and safe atmosphere for children while their parents use the facility. Making sure check-in/check-out goes smoothly and all kids are accounted for at all times. Interacting positively with each child and maintaining full view of all children while in the check-in station. Working on games, puzzles, painting, coloring, and engaging children in a fun creative way every shift.
