Status: full-time; salary; exempt

Summary:  

The Magazine Managing Editor plays a crucial role in communicating Answers in Genesis' core message through the quarterly Answers magazine and Kids Answers (the children’s periodical).  This position oversees editorial processes, working closely with the production manager, editor in chief, writers, copy editors, and design staff to ensure publication quality and accuracy.  

This position is also accountable for displaying our Core Values of SERVE to ensure that the message and mission of Answers in Genesis is portrayed in an effective and God-honoring fashion.

Responsibilities         

  1. Acquire and edit department content to meet all associated deadlines
  2. Collaborate with the editor in chief to plan department articles 
  3. Secure authors and assign articles 
  4. Edit content to AiG standards 
  5. Maintain a stockpile of articles and concepts
  6. Write various copy, including captions, sidebars, and editorial perspective pieces
  7. Assist in magazine growth and execution efforts 
  8. Identify and recruit writers aligned with AiG beliefs 
  9. Review relevant trade publications and assist in subscriber surveys
  10. Manage audio and digital magazine versions, contests, and conference submissions 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Agreement with and ability to sign AiG Statement of Faith
  2. Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  3. Regular attendance at a local Bible-believing church
  4. Strong understanding and support of AiG beliefs
  5. Knowledge of creation/evolution and presuppositional apologetics
  6. Creativity, project management, editing, and communication skills
  7. Strong writing ability
  8. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  9. Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and InCopy
  10. Experience writing for young readers
  11. Ability to give and receive criticism graciously
  12. Ability to work on-site at Answers in Genesis

Education & Experience

    1. BA in English, journalism, or related field
    2. Minimum 3 years of experience in editing, writing, and/or publishing
    3. Strong knowledge of science and Bible topics
