Organization Overview

The Olympic Peninsula YMCA is a non-profit organization serving Clallam and Jefferson Counties. We focus on programs and services that support Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Our mission is to strengthen communities through programs and services that build healthy spirit, mind, and body. We welcome people of all ages, beliefs, incomes, races, genders, and abilities.

General Function

Our Strategic Plan includes a vision of Social Responsibility for our region that “individuals and families of all types are part of a well-connected, supportive community.”  With the Y as an essential partner and convener in this community, the Vice President for Social Impact facilitates lasting social connections that help reduce poverty, isolation, child abuse and neglect, and other expressions of social and personal distress.  To this end, the Vice President for Social Impact provides strategic leadership and supervision for all Social Responsibility programs and initiatives for the Olympic Peninsula YMCA. The Vice President for Social Impact is responsible for staff training and development, as well as community relationships and strategic alliances, related to Social Responsibility programs and services. The Vice President for Social Impact is responsible for developing, leading, delivering, and administering a varied, outcome-based portfolio of Social Responsibility programs and services across the Branches, including but not limited to:

  • Advocacy and Civic Engagement
  • Barrier Removal (Recompete)
  • BIPOC Family Programs
  • Building Futures (mentoring) Program
  • Children’s Advocacy Center (Jefferson Co.)
  • County and Peninsula-wide social service convenings
  • Family Resource Center(s) development
  • Food Security
  • Resilience Project (Handle with Care, Collaborative Learning Academies)
  • Youth & Family Resource Navigation (branch-based, school-based, and/or community-based)

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development & Implementation: In conjunction with CEO, develops, leads, and implements a comprehensive strategy -- including organizational aspirations, vision, and measurable outcomes – for Social Responsibility programs and services.
  • Community Relationships: Informed by community needs and strengths, establishes and deepens community relationships, partnerships, and collaborations to maximize community-based voice, resources, and assets in support of children and families. In alignment with Social Responsibility strategy, works with community partners to identify and mitigate gaps in programs and services for children and families.
  • Advocacy: Develops, leads, and implements strategy to increase internal and external awareness of, and advocacy for, “upstream” solutions for family and community supports (e.g., policies and systems that could improve food & nutrition security).
  • Personnel Supervision & Support: Helps to strengthen the Y’s commitment to its core values and to inclusion and sustainability in supervision of staff and volunteers involved in Social Responsibility programs/services.  Works to ensure that all staff and their families see themselves as vital members of a well-connected, supportive community.
  • Grants/Contracts/Philanthropy: Develops, leads, and implements strategy to ensure sustainability of Social Responsibility programs and services via new and existing grants, contracts, and private philanthropy. Ensures compliance with funding streams including financial tracking and reporting, data management, outcome measurements, and narrative summaries.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develops, leads, and implements an innovative strategy for existing and new offerings, which may include the establishment of Family Resource Center(s) and promotion of the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework.
  • Develops, leads, and implements systems, standard operating procedures (including data collection), tactics, and evaluation pathways that advance the strategy and organizational aspirations for Social Responsibility.
  • Proactively pursues funding streams to support implementation and sustainability of Social Responsibility strategy.
  • Develops, leads, and implements Association-wide training and development practices to advance the Social Responsibility strategy.
  • Designs, leads, implements, and ensures best practices for hiring, training, onboarding, and coaching of Social Responsibility staff and volunteers throughout the Association.
  • Serves as an active participant and collaborator with the Association Leadership Team (CEO, VP of Operations, Finance Director, and Program Executives).
  • Provides support and Association-wide leadership to Branch-based Social Responsibility staff.
  • Engages Branch leadership in the assessment, evaluation, and coaching of Branch-based Social Responsibility staff. 
  • Develops, oversees, and manages the budgets of related assigned area(s), meets fiscal objectives, and closely monitors revenue and expenses.
  • Develops, produces, and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs and services, in accordance with the Association and Branch marketing plans.
  • Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards and regulations.
  • Ensures upkeep of program-related facilities and equipment.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in the program area or related field, Master’s level preferred.
  • Five or more years of related experience including staff and volunteer supervision, community engagement, child and family/child-advocacy skills, financial management, fundraising/grant writing, and grant/contract management and reporting.
  • Demonstrate a genuinely warm, caring personality, sense of creativity, and practical application of the Science of Hope.
  • Ability to relate well and communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals in all circumstances.
  • Ability to establish, process and problem-solve complex registration and/or tracking processes.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Strong administrative and computer skills, including working with Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, program and operating software, and internet applications.
  • Pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Have a current CPR and first-aid certificate or be able to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Additional Expectations and Duties

  • Attends staff meetings and training as required and completes all online training which includes child abuse prevention training within 7 days of hire.
  • Upholds YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management. Adheres to policies to boundaries with youths.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations in accordance with mandated reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for program-related housekeeping tasks to ensure the workspace is always clean.
  • Accurately completes electronic timecard, within timelines for supervisor approval.
  • Belief in the YMCA mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Flexible schedule as needed as on occasion may need to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Working Conditions Environment

  • Indoors, classroom-style, remote, and in-person office environment, some classes and activities are held outside.
  • Virtual meeting and presentation settings.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Evening and/or early morning, and/or weekend hours periodically.
  • Driving and occasional out-of-area travel are required.
