United Community Centers (UCC) is a social justice driven community center that has been serving the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn for over 60 years. UCC has an opening for one (1) full-time Director of Early Childhood Education in the Early Childhood Division. This position is a non-exempt role.
Position Summary:
The Director of Early Childhood Education is responsible for overall administration and supervision of day care services to families and children of the United Community Center. The Director must have significant experience in Early Childhood Education and the ability to oversee and manage a diverse high-quality education program. The Director of Early Childhood Education reports to the Division Director and is a member of UCC’s senior management team. They must be a strong, hands-on manager, with the ability to manage approximately 25 employees.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Early Childhood Education program.
- Coordinates and supervises the efforts of Early Childhood staff in developing and maintaining all program components, including education, health, nutrition, social services, parent involvement, mental health, and disabilities
- Forms warm and caring relationships with children and their parents and caregivers that honor the importance of all individuals in the community.
- Ensures that all program services are of the highest quality, meeting Quality Stars daycare standards.
- Reviews the current program model and develops strategies to provide effective publicity and outreach to continually introduce the school to the community and attract new families/encourage enrollment in our preschool programs, including creating opportunities for Early Childhood Center staff and volunteers to be out in the community.
- Ensures all statutory and regulatory requirements are met and all required licenses are up to date.
- Use effective and secure practices in data collection and management to contribute to accurate reporting and protect the confidentiality of staff and participant’s information.
- Ensures all early childhood education employees are trained regularly to meet compliance regulations and have opportunities for professional development.
- Ensure staff is informed, involved, and integrated in the development and implementation of program outcomes and objectives, as well as individual goals and objectives.
- Works with Family Workers to implement and guide the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC).
- Represents the agency and builds strong working relationships with the Department of Education, other government agencies, child care employees’ unions, and other community and city-wide organizations.
- Maintains sound financial management over all early childhood program budgets, fee collection, reporting, and supports staff who engage with daycare finances.
- Collaborates with the Division Director and Director of Development in managing and identifying additional funding sources and responding to requests for proposals.
- Collaborates with program directors at UCC to inform and educate neighborhood residents on UCC programs and services to optimize awareness within the community.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study; and
- Hold a teaching license or certificate valid for services in the early childhood or childhood grades as pursuant to New York State Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) regulations; and
- Have 2+ years of Lead Teacher experience in a program for children less than six years of age. *only required by Child Care (Article 47) Providers
- Must clear DOE fingerprinting and background authorizations.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership, effective guidance, and stability for program continuity.
- Knowledge of community based day care programs
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Physically able to walk, kneel, crawl, bend, sit on the floor, and carry/lift up to 35 pounds.
- Bilingual Spanish a plus
Salary Range:
-
$73,000 – $81,500, based on experience.

This is a full-time position with flexibility to cover 3 shifts between 8:00am - 6:00pm, Monday through Friday.

This position may require some weekend work.
