Ambassador/Parking Enforcement Officer – Lawrence, MA

Work Hours: Monday – Saturday 8a to 6p (No Sundays / No Holidays)

Pay Scale: $18.00 to $22.00 per hour

Position Summary

Shows a commitment to quality service by promoting local business, public safety and quality of life by patrolling assigned beat to monitor, regulate, and control parking. Advocates good will for the City of Lawrence by providing excellent customer service to residents, businesses and visitors. Demonstrates knowledge of parking ordinances, parking options and rates, and local events and amenities to assist visitors and residents. Creates a positive image of the City of Lawrence by maintaining a professional, empathetic, and composed demeanor when interacting with guests and residents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Uses technology to monitor compliance of city parking ordinances and enforce parking regulations at meters on city streets.
  • Practices active listening techniques and excellent customer service skills when engaging with visitors, residents, co-workers and managers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of parking rules and regulations when addressing guest questions and concerns.
  • Guides visitors and residents in the selection of parking options by demonstrating Knowledge of street, lot, and garage locations and rates
  • Assists with and educates customers on the operation of each type of parking meter and mobile payment options
  • Exhibits familiarity of local events businesses, and amenities and is able to provide general directions.
  • Promotes public and resident safety by maintaining a state of awareness of physical hazards and suspicious activity.
  • Research field guide to ensure correct performance of enforcement tasks.
  • Provides competent court testimony for contested citations
  • Safely operates and maintains company vehicle.
  • Uses email as a daily communication tool
  • Organizes equipment and supplies.

  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Capable of using current technology
  • Knows Google applications such as Gmail and Google calendar
  • Able to interpret and apply City of Lawrence parking ordinances
  • Exceptional degree of professionalism
  • Fundamental knowledge of area roads, events, and amenities
  • Clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to walk on-street beats for entirely of shift, scheduled breaks excluded
  • Capable standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Able to work in all weather conditions
  • Has the ability to be flexible with schedule
  • Must be able to work hours in excess of normally scheduled hours
