Position Summary:

The Army and Navy Academy seek seasonal summer camp Assistant Senior Counselors prepared to lead, instruct, and supervise summer campers. Each platoon of approximately 30 campers is assigned Senior Counselors to support skill development, oversee daily camp activities, and present strategies focused on enhancing positive character traits. Additional emphasis is placed on maintaining camper accountability and contributing to the development and management of a residential environment that is physically and emotionally safe, well-structured, and supportive.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Attend staff orientation, training, and scheduled daily review meetings
  • Supervise campers during on-campus activities, meals, and “downtime” periods
  • Oversee campers during off-campus trips, tours, and activities to ensure adherence to safety and accountability procedures
  • Assist with camper arrival days and additional camp-related activities
  • Mediate conflicts between campers and report any crucial concerns to senior staff
  • Promptly notify an administrator or senior staff when there is reason to believe a camper is at risk or in danger due to such issues as program failure, bullying, sexual harassment/misconduct, depression, or suicide ideation
  • Follow and enforce personnel guidelines as outlined in summer Personnel Policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Desired Qualifications:

  • Current CPR & First Aid certification

  • Previous work with summer camps or interaction with large groups of children

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 18 years of age

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse population of customers, campers, and staff

  • Professional demeanor, and excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Consistent demonstration of dependability, responsibility, honesty, integrity, adaptability, and willingness to act as a role model to campers and staff

  • Ability to observe and evaluate participant activities, enforce safety regulations and mitigate risk by applying appropriate policies and procedures

  • Ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergencies

  • Successfully pass a background check and drug screening as a condition of employment
