Elmbrook's vision is to help people become Rooted in Jesus Christ and Released to His mission in our homes, communities, and world. The James Place Washington High School Coordinator, in partnership with Elmbrook Church and in cooperation with Washington High School staff, will oversee all aspects of the James Place student and teacher resource center located in Washington High School. This position will work closely with a team of volunteers to carry out the mission. 

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Teach and model the mission of James Place: “Building relationships, responding to needs and offering hope in the name of Jesus.”
  • Regularly evaluate James Place Washington High services to discern when to start, improve or discontinue services
  • Recruit, train and maintain a team of volunteers to carry out daily, weekly and seasonal programs and services that build community and enhance quality of life
  • Conduct regular leadership team meetings to share successes, problem solve and cast vision for Spirit-led initiatives
  • Partner with WHS Guidance Department by attending school staff meetings, supporting student completion of Guidance Department tasks, sharing about James Place at grade-level meetings and assisting in other areas such as graduation as needed
  • Partner with WHS teachers, Administration, and other staff by facilitating student groups, tutoring students, meeting with principal twice a year to discuss goals
  • Encourage and support teachers and school support staff in a variety of ways including listening, praying with them and providing a peaceful place for them to rest or work.  
  • Attend all James Place Director meetings
  • Lead teams of volunteers as needed to plan events and develop new initiatives
  • Pursue training to stay current in trends in ministry, leadership and community engagement
  • Be continually looking for ways to connect James Place guests with opportunities for spiritual growth and involvement in other nearby churches and ministries of Elmbrook Church

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a vibrant and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Active participant or member of Elmbrook church who supports and endorses the statement of faith, core values and vision
  • Possess heart of service for central city population
  • Possess teaching background
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Understands the Hidden Rules of a Poverty Culture and the Inner City Culture of teens living in the City of Milwaukee
  • Understands the dynamics of trauma and its impact on students, including how to effectively draw boundaries and create a safe environment for students and volunteers
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and organized
  • Demonstrates a desire to grow seeking relationships, resources and training to assist in the continuation of personal and professional growth
  • Model servant leadership by attitude and practice
  • Desire to build into others, develop people in their skills and gifting
  • Form strong relationships based on mutual trust and respect with both teens and teachers

 

Employment Information

This position is part-time, hourly and classified as nonexempt 20 hours/week.  

Salary – dependent on experience, skills & education

Benefits Package

Paid Time Off (PTO) – Part-time employees who are scheduled to work more than 10 hours per week are eligible to earn PTO.  PTO is accrued on a calendar year basis.  Refer to the Staff Handbook for specific details. 

 

403b – Employees are eligible to participate in the 403b pension plan if they are scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week.  Entry dates for the 403b plan are the first of the month following the date of hire.  On an employee’s first anniversary, Elmbrook will match up to 3%.

 

Holidays – Part-time employees who are scheduled to work more than 10 hours per week are eligible for holiday pay if the holiday falls on their normal scheduled workday. Refer to the Staff Handbook for specific details.

Reporting Structure

The James Place Washington HS Coordinator will be accountable and report directly to the Elmbrook Church James Place Director.
