NIKA is hiring for a General Maintenance Worker to support a base operations support services contract at USCG Base Kodiak, AK!

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repairs on facilities, equipment, and systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Assist in diagnosing issues and determining the appropriate course of action for repairs.
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings, facilities, and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as changing filters, lubricating machinery, and maintaining equipment cleanliness.
- Repair and replace defective parts in mechanical systems.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
- Assist skilled maintenance personnel with more complex repairs and projects as needed.
- Operate basic hand and power tools in a safe and efficient manner.
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures in all tasks.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report issues to the supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in general maintenance, construction, or a related field is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Willingness to follow safety protocols and procedures.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
- Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
- Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
- Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
- Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment
- May spend long hours in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions
- May also encounter potential poisons and gases that could cause injury or illness
- Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with sewer and water
