Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems
- Cut pipe, using saws, pipe cutter, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine
- Thread pipe, using pipe threading machine
- Bend pipe, using pipe bending tools and pipe bending machine
- Assemble and install variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic
- Connect pipes, using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints
- Secure pipe to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers
- Install and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment, such as pumps and cylinders
- Increase pressure in pipe system and observe connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks
- May weld pipe supports onto structural steel members
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Licensed Journeyman Pipefitter
- 3 + years in the plumbing/pipefitting trades
- Experience maintaining, repairing, installing and operating plumbing systems, to include pipes, traps, plumbing fixtures, back flow prevention systems, water and drain lines, pressure vessels and control systems
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted
- Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
- Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
- Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
- May spend long hours outside and in awkward positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain
- Lifting and adjusting heavy objects, contact with sharp, hot and/or very cold supplies and equipment
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures (some extreme) and weather conditions
