Reports to:                Senior Director of Individual Giving & Communications

Status:                       Full-Time; Regular; Non-Exempt

Salary Range:           $27.48 to $32.97 (approximately $50,000 to $60,000 annually)

Location:                    Long Island City, Queens

Days/Hours:               Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm, subject to change based on program needs

 

 

Position Summary:

The Development Associate will report directly to the Sr. Director of Individual Giving & Communications.  They will have primary responsibility for maintaining the agency’s fundraising database (Raiser’s Edge) and Development Department records in Microsoft SharePoint. They need to create fundraising pages and campaigns in the agency’s online donation software, Classy. They will work with the Sr. Director on individual fundraising efforts including donor mailings, acknowledgement letters, donor and board meeting preparation and minute taking as well as supporting fundraising events like the marathon and annual gala. They will also work in close collaboration with the Vice President of Development & Communications and Grant Writers to support the Development department’s administrative needs, including scheduling meetings, minute-taking, creating donor profiles, and collecting and organizing grant application attachments and proposals.

 

They must possess a strong passion for criminal legal reform and belief in providing reentry services for the justice involved as well as promoting alternatives to incarceration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary user of our donor databases: Raiser’s Edge NXT and Classy;

  • Process gifts and acknowledgement letters and produce batch reports in close coordination with our Finance team;

  • Continually update and amend database records, with an eye toward quality control;

  • Produce standard and complex reports and mailing lists;

  • Assist with coordination of fundraising and cultivation events as needed;

  • Maintain Development records in Microsoft SharePoint;

  • Conduct research on prospects (individual and institutional) and current donors. Prepare donor profiles;

  • Support Development team with scheduling fundraising meetings; taking meeting minutes; and collecting and organizing grant application attachments and proposal generation;

  • Assist with writing donor communications;

  • Provide administrative support to the Vice President of Development & Communications.

  • Assemble donor packets for events and meetings;

  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed by the Development team; and

  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BA preferred and/or 1-2 years of experience working in a relevant field;

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with great attention to detail;

  • Experience with/or interest in learning Raiser’s Edge or comparable fundraising database;

  • Excellent writing and communications skills;

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate well with colleagues, interns and volunteers;

  • Knowledge of essential computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint);

  • Strong desire to support the work of The Fortune Society by increasing unrestricted funding; and

 

Travel Requirements - May require occasional travel to our other sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx, as well as to some city-wide donor meetings, presentations, and events.
