Job Summary

As a Technical Recruiter at Onward, you will manage the entire recruitment lifecycle for our open roles. You’ll partner with hiring managers to understand their unique needs, source and engage high-caliber candidates, and ensure a seamless, positive candidate experience. Your role will be critical in building a strong talent pipeline that aligns with Onward's innovative culture and strategic goals.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Hiring Managers:  Work closely with technical and HR leaders to define job requirements and create compelling job descriptions.
  • Talent Sourcing:  Utilize diverse channels such as job boards, social media, professional networks, and industry events to identify and engage top technical talent.
  • Direct Candidate Sourcing:  Proactively build and nurture a pipeline of qualified candidates using direct sourcing methods, including networking and community engagement, to ensure we are not reliant on external recruitment firms.
  • Candidate Screening and Evaluation:  Conduct comprehensive phone and in-person interviews, assess technical competencies, and evaluate candidates for cultural fit.
  • Manage the Interview Process:  Coordinate and schedule interviews, collect feedback from interview panels, and ensure a smooth candidate journey throughout the hiring process.
  • Maintain Recruitment Systems:  Use our applicant tracking system to manage candidate data, track recruitment metrics, and ensure compliance with all hiring practices.
  • Employer Branding:  Represent Onward at job fairs, networking events, and industry conferences to enhance our employer brand and attract high-quality candidates.
  • Continuous Improvement:  Stay updated on the latest industry trends, tools, and best practices to continuously improve our recruitment strategies.

  • Direct Sourcing & Candidate Engagement:  Proactively identify, attract, and engage high-caliber technical talent using diverse sourcing methods—without relying on external recruitment firms.
  • Effective Communication:  Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly articulate job requirements, engage candidates, and collaborate with internal teams.
  • Technical Acumen:  Possess a solid understanding of technical roles and industry-specific technologies to accurately assess candidate skills and fit.
  • Recruitment Process Management:  Manage the full-cycle recruitment process efficiently—from crafting job descriptions to onboarding—ensuring a smooth and positive candidate experience.
  • Relationship Building:  Cultivate strong relationships with hiring managers, candidates, and industry professionals to build a robust talent pipeline.
  • Organizational Skills:  Effectively manage multiple requisitions and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making:  Utilize applicant tracking systems (ATS) and recruitment metrics to analyze performance and continuously optimize the hiring process.
  • Strategic Talent Pipeline Development:  Develop and implement proactive strategies for long-term talent acquisition, aligning with Onward’s growth objectives.
  • Problem Solving & Adaptability:  Navigate recruitment challenges with innovative solutions and maintain flexibility in a dynamic, evolving environment.
  • Diversity & Inclusion Advocacy:  Champion inclusive hiring practices to ensure a diverse candidate pool and foster a culture of inclusion within the organization.

 

 

Typical Day:

A typical day for a recruiter at Onward starts with reviewing new candidate applications and syncing with hiring managers to prioritize open roles. They spend the morning actively sourcing talent through professional networks and community events, ensuring a diverse pool of candidates without relying on external recruitment firms. Throughout the day, the recruiter conducts screening calls and interviews, collaborates with internal teams to refine job descriptions, and provides regular updates on recruitment metrics. In addition to engaging with potential hires, they attend strategy meetings to align talent acquisition with Onward’s growth objectives. The day wraps up with detailed follow-ups, updating the applicant tracking system, and planning the next steps to continuously enhance the recruitment process.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Technical Acumen:  A strong understanding of various technical roles and the skills required in the modern tech landscape.
  • Communication Skills:  Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a keen ability to engage and persuade top talent.
  • Organizational Skills:  Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Tech Savvy:  Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and various recruitment tools; familiarity with platforms like LinkedIn, GitHub, and Stack Overflow is a plus.
  • Interpersonal Skills:  A collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic, innovative environment, with a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

 

 

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • Technical Recruiting Experience:  A minimum of 2+ years in technical recruiting or talent acquisition, with a proven track record of sourcing and hiring technical talent directly.
  • Full-Cycle Recruitment:  Demonstrated experience in managing the complete recruitment process—from job requisition to candidate onboarding—in a fast-paced environment.
  • Industry Familiarity:  Prior experience within the tech industry is preferred, ensuring familiarity with technical roles and the specific skills required.
  • Direct Sourcing Expertise:  Experience using direct sourcing methods (e.g., networking, community engagement) rather than relying on external recruitment firms.

 

 

Preferred Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in a fast-growing, pre-revenue or startup company.
  • Familiarity with robotics, software engineering, or other technical disciplines.

 

 

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience.
