This is a hybrid position that will work 4 days/week in clinic performing resource responsibilities and 1 day/week in clinic assisting with direct family planning or abortion services.

GENERAL PRIORITIES

  • Responds to all clinical calls from call center, both abortion and family planning patients. Returns patient calls in a timely fashion and advices as indicated. Follows up with provider when warranted.
  • Calls AB patients from all sites for follow up as desired by patients.
  • Follows up on all abnormal lab results received during the day of duty, calling the patient to notify them of the result and follow up as needed. Works with the appropriate provider to prescribe/arrange treatment as indicated.
  • Acts as the third RN when present on AB days, with the goal of improving flow and patient experience in AB clinics.
  • Assists with follow up of PUL patients in conjunction with PPAZ Ultrasound Specialist. 
  • Assists in administrative and quality improvement projects as assigned by the Medical Director.
  • Assists with prior authorizations and other insurance or other paperwork and phone calls for patient care.
  • Triages all clinical calls from patients and staff during clinic hours per PPAZ protocol.
  • Exercises discretion in acquiring and disseminating confidential and propriety information including any patient PHI acquired physically and/or electronically.
  • Performs in-clinic responsibilities including blood draws, starting and maintaining IVs, administering injections including vaccines, providing medications, contraceptives, and TB testing.
  • Performs patient intake including taking vital signs, taking weight, blood pressure, hematocrit, Rh factor, pulse, and temperature, and administering pregnancy tests.
  • Begins and monitors intravenous flow of medications.
  • Administers sedation, monitors patient vital signs during procedural sedation, and recognizes and communicates complications of procedural sedation to surgical team.
  • Assists patient during surgical procedures with emotional and physical support.
  • Monitors vital signs, bleeding, and pain during recovery until patient is stable for discharge.
  • Educates patients on pre and postoperative care and proper use of birth control and medications dispensed. Dispenses and administers medications per clinician orders.
  • Provides patient contraceptive counseling and abortion counseling.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of an accredited RN program
  • Current Arizona RN license
  • Current ACLS card.
  • 1 year of RN experience in an outpatient surgery setting preferred.
  • Training in urgent care preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in medical history screening, working with the public, and assisting physicians. 
  • Warmth, patience, great bedside manner, and excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to assist physician with abortion procedures through 16 weeks gestation. 
  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred.
