Working with the Chief Development Officer, the Development Specialist will be responsible cultivating donor relationships, planning, organizing, & executing fundraising initiatives to secure funding for our programs and projects, including being responsible & accountable for overseeing and coordinating events in state of Arizona—Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff. The Development Specialist will also provide support to the philanthropy program by developing and executing fundraising strategies to achieve revenue goals and ensuring timely processing of gifts, donor letters, and correspondence. 

 

GENERAL PRIORITIES

  • Support the Chief Development Officer and Development Department by developing and executing fundraising strategies to achieve revenue targets.  
  • Cultivate relationships with individual and corporate donors to secure financial support. Conduct donor research and record maintenance and support development team in planning cultivation strategy. 
  • Create donor communication materials according to standard operating procedures and branding guidelines.  
  • Implement initiatives to increase supporter engagement.  
  • Manage all development email campaigns and mass mailings. 
  • Provide leadership for external fundraising and stewardship event committees, coordinate, and produce events in designated regions, and assist with events throughout the affiliate as needed. 
  • Coordinate all fundraising and stewardship event-related logistics, including but not limited to venue selection and contracting, catering arrangements, security, marketing plan, invitation creation and distribution, guest registration, online registration and payment platforms, virtual event platforms, and onsite audiovisual and production needs, event onsite oversight, sponsorship solicitation, guest list creation, and entertainment, program execution, and donor/attendee engagement. 
  • Coordinate and help lead ancillary groups such as Donor Host Parties, as appropriate. 
  • Support general Development program through maintenance of donor database-- processing of gifts and generating supporting documentation, creating, and executing queries and generating lists. Follow standard operating procedures for daily mail handling of development related mail. 
  • Draft and process acknowledgement and tax letters. 
  • Coordination and implementation of event development mailings and post correspondence. 
  • Provide telephone and overall support for administrative offices, as needed. 
  • Participate as a professional member of development department staff in providing effective service to the agency. 
  • Administrative and other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional office experience; nonprofit fundraising setting preferred. 
  • Work experience in event planning, coordination, & execution. 
  • Proven experience in non-profit fundraising with successful record in donor cultivation & stewardship. 
  • Experience processing various payment types or banking background. Experience with financial reconciliation is desired. 
  • Experience with CRM databases; Salesforce preferred. 
  • Gift/Donation coding, recording, & reconciliation experience, a plus. 
  • Knowledge of database, word-processing, spreadsheet software, graphic design and web maintenance programs, and social media websites.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; intermediate to advanced skills in Excel and Word. 
  • Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Be a resourceful individual that embraces self-learning opportunities. 
  • Accurately type, write letters, reports and various business documents using good composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Outstanding attention to detail with excellent written, verbal, and administrative skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize. Strong organizational and project management skills. 
  • Collaborate effectively with donors, volunteers, and diverse constituents. 
  • Travel required: Arizona driver’s license and documentation of automobile insurance required. Occasional travel in Arizona to other sites and/or conferences. Occasional air travel to regional, state, or national conferences.
