As a STREAM (Science, Teamwork, Recreation, Epicurious, Art, and More) Counselor, you'll play a pivotal role in supervising and engaging child participants in our exciting STREAM Explorers School Day Off programs, Winter Break Camp, and Spring Break Camp. Summary: Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the STREAM (Science, Teamwork, Recreation, Epicurious, Art and More) Explorers School Day Off and Break Counselor (STREAM Counselor) is responsible for the supervision of child participants in STREAM Explorers School Day Off, Winter Break Camp and Spring Break Camp.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide onsite supervision of and lead specific STREAM programs as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Work with supervisor and director in preparing and leading programs throughout the day/break.
  • Maintain safe spaces and report any hazards to supervisor.
  • Assist with setup prior to the start of the program and clean up after programs are finished.
  • Greet all students and parents courteously, attend to their needs and provide them with appropriate direction and information. 
  • Report shortage of supplies to STREAM Explorers Director.
  • Know and follow emergency action procedures. Assist other personnel in emergency situations.
  • Have a clear understanding of and act in accordance with Park District of Highland Park policies and procedures.
  • Communicate all feedback and other relative information to the STREAM Explorers Director.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with the Park district staff. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Qualifications

Qualifications: High school sophomore or higher; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to clearly communicate in person. Able to interact in an age-appropriate manner with children as well as communicate with parents and adults. Must be available to work some holidays during school break times.
