Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Collections/Insurance Clerk to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:  

Performs all duties related to the collection of accounts receivable.  Establishes payment arrangements with patients in order to collect on accounts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Customer Service on the phone and face-to-face
    1. Open new patient accounts
    2. Update demographics/insurance information on existing accounts
    3. Quote pricing for services and procedures
    4. Refile charges to insurance with some original filing on HCFA forms
    5. Take patient payments on account, process automatic payments, and post to accounts
    6. Correct billing errors, make courtesy adjustments within guidelines, and request patient refunds.
    7. Accepts other miscellaneous duties as assigned
  2. Review provider schedules prior to appointments to verify payment requirement on date of service due to account status. Assist BMC surgery department in contacting patient if deposit is required prior to surgery.
  3. Collects delinquent accounts, establishes payment arrangements with patients, and follows up to ensure that delinquent accounts are being paid. 
  4. Evaluates unpaid accounts.  Works with collection agency and small-claims court action accounts.  Represents the hospital in all court cases dealing with outstanding patient account bills.
  5. Handles all bankruptcy accounts.
  6. Determine eligibility for payment plan and sets up all payment arrangement on accounts and monitors them to make sure they are paying as agreed.
  7. Works on payment arrangements with self-paying accounts that are overdue. Types and mails collection letters and review accounts on a scheduled basis. Telephones those who do not respond to letters. Records all transactions on account.
  8. Prepares bad debt report to send to outside agency and turn to collection.
  9. Handles all medical liens.
  10. Process requests from insurance companies, legal office, etc.
  11. Accepts and completes other duties assigned.
  12. The employee is required to comply with all PCI standards and other company policies and procedures for payment card acceptance and security.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience:  One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education experience.

Equipment/Technology:  Ability to use hospital information system, and operate basic computer functions and software.

Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Mental Capabilities:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Interpersonal:  Ability to work well with others.
