Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:  

Will be responsible to perform routine health assessments of children to check for injuries, illnesses or disabilities. Duties include communicating with patients and their parents to help them maintain healthy habits, administering vaccinations for common viruses and referring patients to specialists based on their needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Evaluate and treat patients with acute minor medical illness, wellness exams, school physicals, immunizations, sick visits, behavioral health and urgent visits.
  2. Perform minor office procedures such as laceration repairs, splints, cyst or toenail excision, circumcisions, abscess incision and drainage, etc. 
  3. Evaluate and provide appropriate stabilization for patients with acute serious medical conditions or injuries and facilitate transfer as appropriate to an emergency facility or hospital.
  4. Monitor level of care using statistical models and chart review and provide unsolicited medical judgment where appropriate.
  5. Manage the patient’s care in a timely manner and maintain a level of productivity that is equivalent to the other providers on staff.
  6. Interact with office, laboratory, radiology, and nursing staff as part of the patient care process.
  7. Perform required quality assurance steps in the patient care process.
  8. Interpret laboratory, radiology, EKG and basic pulmonary function tests.
  9. Thoroughly and accurately document every patient encounter.
  10. Bill appropriately for each patient care visit.
  11. Respond to requests from the hospital QMP (qualified medical personnel), via telephone or in person as appropriate, for management of hospital walk-in patients.
  12. Respond as appropriate to any activation of a local or state wide Disaster Code or Multi-casualty Incident (MSI).
  13. Handle all patient evaluations and transfers in compliance with federal EMTALA Regulations.
  14. Interface, as appropriate and necessary, with providers and medical personnel within and outside of Mountain View Hospital whenever necessary to ensure good patient care.
  15. Serve as the Team Leader for your assigned shift if you are the most medically qualified personnel.  This may involve supervising or providing back up to other Physician’s Assistants or Nurse Practitioners
  16. Attends at least 75% of staff meetings annually
  17. Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  18. Completes annual education requirements
  19. Become Familiar with Hospital, RHC and PCMH polices.
  20. Perform other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Licensed Nurse Practitioner/Licensed Physician Assistant. Maintain current Idaho licensure, Federal DEA and IBOP certifications. Complete adequate CME as required by licensure. Maintain current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS. (Nurse Practitioner: Works within the scope of practice as defined by the Idaho Board of Nursing.)

 

Experience:  At least two years experience working independently in a pediatric setting evaluating and treating a broad range of patients, medically compliant (infectious disease, cardiac, orthopedic, etc.) and acuity level (routine, urgent and emergent).

 

Equipment/Technology:  Routine physical assessment tools.

 

Language/Communication:  Communicate well with staff, patients, family members, and consultants.  Second language fluency is an asset.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Basic math skills necessary to calculate medication dosages, etc.

 

Mental Capabilities:  High level of diagnostic thinking, often rapid. Must be able to perform multi-tasking with frequent interruptions.  Must be capable of on-the-spot problem-solving.  Strong knowledge of up-to-date clinical information.  Must be flexible.

 

Interpersonal:  Ability to inspire staff to tackle challenging work.  Ability to recognize, understand and address the needs of patients and family members on multiple levels.  Ability to communicate well and inspire trust when encountering individuals of all cultures, levels of education and walks of life.  Ability to project a feeling of caring and concern to others.

 

Performance:   Must be able to work efficiently and comply with daily demands.  Works well under pressure and able to meet multiple and competing deadlines.  Able to work as part of a team of clinical providers who share responsibility for the patients’ well-being and the clinics’ operations.  Understands the requirements of being a department of a hospital and complies with that level of quality.
