Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Instrument Processing Technician to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:  The Instrument Processing Technician cleans, packages, sterilizes, and stores the supplies, instruments and equipment. Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adheres to the sterilization process policies and procedures.
    1. Cleans each item according to manufacturers’ instruction.
    2. Inspects instruments under microscope for damage and defects; lubricates items as required.
    3. Determines that each item is in good working condition.
    4. Sorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established policy and procedure.
    5. Wraps trays and individual items according to established policy and procedure.
    6. Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date.
    7. Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washer and other equipment for processing items.
    8. Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed.
    9. Checks indicators for proper functioning.
    10. Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to established policy and procedures.
    11. Maintains availability of supplies for continuity of recording throughout sterilization process.
    12. Cleans sterilizers according to established policies and procedures.
  2. Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.
    1. Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the Facility.
    2. Checks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items; replaces items as necessary.
    3. Places items in correct location.
    4. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing area.
    5. Maintains and updates the instrument tray inventory list.
    6. Maintains current information regarding routine preference cards.
    7. Accurately documents count of items sent to and returned by laundry.
  3. Acts as team lead for the department when called upon by Sterile Processing Department manager or VP of Surgical Services. Duties to include:
    1. Verify schedule for next day.
    2. Assuring that staff stays on task and is utilizing department time wisely.
    3. Assists with training of new staff when asked by Sterile Processing Department manager.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:  High School graduate or equivalent.

 

Experience:  Experience in instrument processing functions preferred.

 

Language/Communication:  Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

 

Mental Capabilities:  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.  Can adapt to rapidly changing workloads due to changes in the surgery census. Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments.

 

Interpersonal:  Ability to work well with others.

 

Performance:  Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required.  Ability to respond quickly to physician and patient needs.
