Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Labor Registered Nurse to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:       

Provides direct patient care in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care.  Communicates with providers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies.  Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.  Performs general nursing duties in the Perinatal Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  2. Ability to care for antenatal patients and monitor for complications and change in status.
  3. Ability to assess and care for low and moderate-risk patients in labor or high risk under close supervision of a charge nurse, during delivery, and postpartum setting and address any change in condition. Is capable of managing care of 1-2 labor patients.
  4. Able to provide family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother/baby unit.
  5. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines once NRP is complete.
  6. Ability to perform, on admission, a head-to-toe assessment on infants and adults and reassessments as per policy.
  7. Ability to implement a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of the patient and evaluates effectiveness of teaching (family is included as appropriate).
  8. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicted by the patients’ response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  9. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skill necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring according to AWHONN.  Identifies FHR patterns and intervenes appropriately and promptly.
  11. Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and providers.
  12. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for the interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  13. Demonstrates and ability to assist providers with procedures in the perinatal unit.
  14. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful and emergent situations.
  15. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  16. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formations of the plan of care.  Reevaluates plan of care each shift.
  17. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department, with other departments, and with other facilities.
  18. Written and computer documentation meet current standards and polices.  Documents in EMR system accurately and per policy and AWHONN standards.
  19. Identifies and addressed psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  20. Manages and operates all equipment safely and correctly. Reports broken equipment immediately per protocol.
  21. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, staff meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice in ongoing education.  Attends staff meetings.
  22. Demonstrates the ability to use HealthStream and completes assigned modules.
  23. Demonstrates the ability to access PolicyStat and acknowledges assigned policies.
  24. Reads emails at least weekly.
  25. Strives to meet requirements/goal for the quarterly bonuses.
  26. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  27. GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIES:

  28. Knows and practices the prescribed vision, mission, values and standards of Mountain View Hospital.

  29. Knows and adheres to the hospital dress code, as well as the OR dress code.
  30. Reports to work on time as scheduled. Knows and adheres to hospital protocol for absences and vacations. Uses time clock effectively, clocks in and out each shift.
  31. Wears hospital identification while on duty.
  32. Prioritizes tasks so that the most important tasks are completed first.
  33. Upholds Mountain View Hospital confidentiality policy.
  34. Supports supervision and adheres to hospital policies in a positive and constructive manner.
  35. Initiates action to prevent the occurrence of any potential problems or nonconformities relating to patient care or supporting activities.
  36. Initiates, recommends, or provides solutions through designated channels.
  37. Promotes positive communication in the work environment, does not gossip or cause contention among co-workers.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid RN license with the state of Idaho.

Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated:

  • BLS at the time of hire or within 14 days of employment
  • AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practice prior to completion of labor orientation or as soon as possible, or current RNC-EFM. Renew every 2 years or maintain EFM.
  • NRP within 6 months of hire 
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire
  • STABLE within 6 months of hire
  • Complete all required Labor and Maternal Newborn orientation competencies prior to coming off orientation, and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency.  
  • Complete QMP-OB, Baby Catching, & Scrub competencies within 6 months

Experience: 3 years previous labor and/or postpartum experience (preferred)

Equipment/Technology:  Basic Computer Skills.  Able to use I.V. pumps, radiant warmer, fetal monitoring devices, leg compression devices, PCA pump and respiratory equipment, etc.

Language/Communication:  Excellent communication skills and leadership capability.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to calculate drug dosages.

Mental Capabilities:  Possess critical thinking and organizational skills.  Ability to prioritize patient care for safety and best optimal outcome.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 

Interpersonal:  Able to work well with others.  Able to de-escalate volatile situations.  Able to consider constructive instruction.

Performance:   Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
