Description

Working as a member of the IT department, the LV Cable Tech is primarily responsible for enhancing over-all layer one productivity. The Technician is expected to have the solid skill set and will assist with multiple aspects of the cable installation process at the many different locations around the company.

  • Install terminate, test, label and document horizontal, CAT5/6/7, RG8, RG58 and other cables utilizing pathway systems such as cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks, wire ties, wire boots or D-rings.
    2. Dress and route cable into telecommunications closets, modular furniture, and other work areas.
    3. Create and maintain data cable maps for existing and new locations.
    4. Build out telecommunication and equipment rooms.
    5. Fire-stop various types of cable penetrations.
    6. Test, troubleshoot, and document test results for cabling.
    7. Perform/prepare timely field reporting of asset usage as required.
    8. Perform other duties as needs arise.
    9. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
    10. On retrofit jobs: Partial Removal of fiber/CAT5 runs, remove shielding, install protective boot, other wire management items.
    11. Installation of select computer/server racks (floor anchored)
    12. On retrofit jobs; replace floor tiles where frames were pinned (glue down the application)
    13. On retrofit jobs; removal of overhead wire tray and existing cabling that lives in those trays. Includes removal of ceiling anchors that support the wire tray.
    14. Install new computer/server racks, floor anchored
    15. Install new fiber/cable trays overhead, includes ceiling support mounting
    16. Install, terminate, test and labeling CAT cable runs, install two and four post racks, black boxes, patch panels, grounding bars on the new racks.
    17. Assist the Facilities department in installing electrical cable under supervision as needed.
    18. Ability to choose the correct tool and methodology for the given task; for themselves and can help other team members do the same.
    19. Ability to work comfortably from heights (ladders and lifts are used daily) and use large power tools (drill, hammer drill, Sawzall, bandsaw or similar items) with ease.
    22. Familiarity with BICSI/TIA and other installation standards
    21. Recognize differences in color codes for 568A, 568B, six strand fiber, 12 strand fiber, 25 pairs, and 50 pair
    22. Use good judgment and follow safety practices always. Use caution with power equipment, ladders and lifts, lifting heaving objects, etc.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Industry or Technical Certification/Educations a plus. Valid driver’s license.

Experience: One years’ work experience in Structured Cabling preferred.

Equipment/Technology: Work with CAT5/6/7, RG8, RG58, and other cables. RJ45 and other applicable connectors, wall plates, etc. Tools will be punch down tools, power tools, etc… Required to complete the job successfully, appropriately, and competently.

Language/Communication: Read, write and understand English.  Ability to understand and adequately explain every aspect of the structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross and interconnections, and testing. This includes understanding applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices and the ability to differentiate between them and make recommendations. Read and comprehend technical schematics, operation manuals, maintenance instructions and procedures

Mathematical Skills: Need to be able to perform basic math skills to complete tasks, keep track of inventory needed, used, etc.

Mental Capabilities: Ability to meet deadlines and communicate with management on anything that may prohibit completion.

Interpersonal: Demonstrated aptitude for learning from senior team members. Demonstrate teamwork and versatility in

integrating into multiple work environments.

Performance: Ability to listen carefully to follow detailed instructions. Exhibit a positive attitude. High attention to detail.

Willingness to work days, night, and weekends as required. Self-motivated and excellent work ethic.
