DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant

  1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physician with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  2. Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
  3. Proficient in clerical responsibilities including: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
  4. Performs facility responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  5. Maintains Point of Care documents and performs Quality Control management.

 

Licensed Practical Nurse/Registered Nurse

  1. Work under direct supervision of MD, PA-C or NP to provide excellent patient care to all clients.
  2. Is able to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and performs reassessments as per policy.  This includes: pediatric, geriatric, the general patient population, and EMTALA appropriate medical screening exams.
  3. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain.  Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.  Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  4. Revises plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment.
  5. Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures as needed when the lab tech is unavailable and performs tests in a timely manner.
  6. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  7. Is knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  8. Capably assists providers with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.

Qualifications

Medical Assistant:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Current BLS. 

 

Certified Medical Assistant:  CMA certification, phlebotomy course/experience preferred.  Current BLS.

 

Licensed Practical Nurse:  LPN degree with BLS and ACLS/PALS within six months of hire.

 

Registered Nurse:  RN degree with BLS and ACLS/PALS within six months of hire.
