DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant:
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physician with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
- Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
- Proficient in clerical responsibilities including: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
- Performs facility responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
- Maintains Point of Care documents and performs Quality Control management.
Licensed Practical Nurse/Registered Nurse:
- Work under direct supervision of MD, PA-C or NP to provide excellent patient care to all clients.
- Is able to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and performs reassessments as per policy. This includes: pediatric, geriatric, the general patient population, and EMTALA appropriate medical screening exams.
- Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Revises plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment.
- Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures as needed when the lab tech is unavailable and performs tests in a timely manner.
- Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
- Is knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Capably assists providers with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
