Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/POC Coordinator to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:       

Clinical Lab Scientist- The employee must correctly order, collect, and process laboratory specimens in a timely manner. The employee will perform all assigned testing in Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. The employee will troubleshoot analyzers and perform maintenance as needed. The employee must adhere to all lab policies and procedures. The employee will run proficiency samples as assigned.  

Point of Care Coordinator- The employee is responsible for ordering all POC supplies, maintaining QC reports as well as  checking QC is done when needed, updating employee records for POC analyzers, checking POC analyzers and supply carts in designated areas on a regular basis, maintaining all POC analyzers, and coordinating with nursing staff on training, use, and maintenance of POC analyzers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Must follow all pre-analytical steps in properly collecting, identifying, and labeling patient samples.  Will order and process patient specimens to ensure good TAT (turn-around- time) and be able to prioritize specimens according to status type- STAT, Routine, Pre-op, etc.
  2. Follows all hospital/lab policies and procedures
  3. Shows proper knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and reagents.
  4. Can properly operate all lab equipment, as well as, run quality control, calibrations, and perform maintenance as needed for the following areas of the lab: Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Coagulation, Blood Bank, POC, and Microbiology, as assigned and competency verified.
  5. Participates in proficiency testing as assigned. 
  6. Correctly reports patient results by following proper lab procedure. Knows the proper procedure for calling, reporting, and documenting critical results.  
  7. Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  8. Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
  9. POC Coordinator-

  10. Will keep lab procedures up to date and current for all POC testing.

  11. Orders all POC supplies, maintains equipment, and checks POC equipment/supply carts on a regular basis
  12. Reviews monthly QC reports for all POC analyzers, performs liquid QC and calibration verification on ABL90s, checks to make sure QC has been performed on remaining POC kits when needed.
  13. Ensures that QML is up to date with employee information so appropriate staff is able to perform ABL90 and Stat Strip testing.
  14. Monitors employee eligibility for ABL90 and Stat Strip testing.  
  15. Maintains and develops a professional relationship with nursing staff, so any issues with POC testing can be resolved effectively.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:  Must have a Bachelor’s degree in either MLS/CLS, Chemistry, Biology, Physics or equivalent Physical Science. Current certification as MLS/CLS with an accrediting agency. Current BLS Certification.  Valid driver’s license.

Experience:   2+ years in the clinical laboratory. 

Equipment/Technology:   Prefer experience with computers, lab equipment, and LIS.

Language/Communication:  Must have the ability to read and communicate (oral and written) effectively in English.

Mathematical Skills:  General Math skills.

Mental Capabilities:  Can frequently and consistenly make sound judgements. Must be organized, can multitask, and be a critical thinker.

Interpersonal: Must have good communication skills, can work well with others, and be a team player.   

Performance:  Can work well under pressure, meet multiple and competing deadlines, have good customer service, prioritize sample testing, follow all lab policies and procedures.
