Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Laboratory Processor to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Obtain valid laboratory orders, process orders, and data entry. Process incoming reference lab samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling. Follow applicable hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering of samples to laboratory. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to all patients, providers, nurses and other medical staff. Work well under pressure. Perform limited CLIA waived testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Be proficient and timely in the processing of blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.

2. Ensure all testing ordered is appropriate for tubes in hand.

3. Ensure all samples are treated according to testing priority, STAT, timed and routine. Be proficient at logging samples into lab within 5 minutes of receiving them.

4. Shows attention to detail in all areas of ordering, patient identification and test identification.

5. Follow all applicable hospital / laboratory policies and procedures to include, but not limited to patient identification, specimen collection, specimen rejection, specimen labeling, and specimen stability.

6. Provide competent and quality clinical care to all patients.
a. Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures.
b. Provides age appropriate care.
c. Reporting, monitoring, and management of patient and staff incidents.
d. Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.

7. Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

8. Maintain, develop and utilize professional relationships within our organization and its affiliates.
a. Maintain effective working relationships between nursing, clerical, medical and allied health staff.

9. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory.
a. Answers incoming calls to the laboratory in a professional and timely manner.
b. Must maintain patient confidentiality.

10. Performs miscellaneous tasks and other duties as deemed necessary that promote smooth operations.

11. Assist Medical Laboratory Scientists with tasks to ensure acceptable turnaround times are met.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or higher. Hold a current BLS Certification. Hold a valid driver’s license.

 

Experience: Two years of medical experience required.

 

Equipment/Technology: Experience with computers and office equipment, required.

 

Language/Communication: The ability to read and communicate (oral and written) effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus. Must be able to understand medical terminology.
 

Mathematical Skills: General Math skills.

 

Mental Capabilities: Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments. Must be organized, multi-tasker, and a critical thinker.

 

Interpersonal: Good communication skills, and ability to work well with others. Team player and flexible.

 

Performance: Can work well under pressure and meet multiple and competing deadlines. Provide excellent customer service. Complete all tasks with minimal error and in a timely manner.
