JOB SUMMARY: The Technologist Assistant is responsible for assisting the Radiologic Technologist with patients during the imaging process. The assistant will be one of the first contacts for patients, physicians, and other medical staff.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Technologist Assistant:

1. In a professional and friendly manner, answers incoming phone calls, facilitates scheduling of exams, dispenses exam preparations and
instructions, and responds to general imaging questions.

2. Assist Technologist with proper and comprehensive patient screening prior to examination.

3. Assists Technologist with having patients change into gowns (when necessary), screen patient and document, transport patients, and answer
questions and prepare the patient for imaging procedures to make sure the patient is comfortable and at ease during the imaging process.

4. Reviews physician orders and verifies we have all previous images used for comparison.

5. Assists in accepting and processing incoming images from other facilities to use as comparison.

6. Assists with documentation for appropriate patient information necessary for exam interpretation and patient care.

7. Assists the schedulers, technologists, and other coworkers in the department as needed.

8. Promotes effective working relationships and works effectively as a part of the department/team to facilitate the hospital and department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

9. Troubleshoots technical problems and works with the vendors to resolve problems that arise.

10. Maintains flexibility as department grows with willingness to accept additional responsibilities requested by department director.

11. Acts professional in every situation: patient, co-worker or intradepartmental.

12. Recognizes that many people we see are at a low point in their lives and will show compassion for them even if it is only a smile.

13. Protects information that is sensitive, proprietary or confidential in nature. Adheres to Patient Rights Policy and patient confidentiality standards.

14. Works to provide functional and safe surroundings for patients and staff (i.e., safety, security, infection control, etc.). Strives to always promote personal and patient safety. Demonstrates awareness of the location of applicable hospital and department specific manuals.

15. Completes all annual mandatory education requirements (including hospital, department, and job specific competencies).

16. Attends the required number of staff meetings per department standard.

17. Arrives at work station and is ready to work at the designated start time.

18. Assists patient on and off the table.

19. Assists CT technologist with positioning the patient.

20. Accesses and de-accesses I.V.s on patients.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Must hold or obtain current BLS.

Experience: 1-3 months experience preferred, but not required.

Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively, before groups of customers and or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Basic

Mental Capabilities: Continuously able to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and continuously able to attend to task/function for an extended period of time. Ability to learn computer programs and input data as required.

Performance: Communication skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients and other personnel. Holds the judgment, tact and diplomacy to effectively resolve conflicts.
