The Role

The Senior Vice President, Public Policy, is a senior leader at the DRC, with primary responsibility for the organization’s involvement on influencing the development and implementation of public policies important to the achievement of the DRC mission and strategic objectives with an emphasis on economic development, infrastructure and healthcare policy.

 

Reporting Structure

This individual will report directly to the President & CEO and assist with overall operations of this team.

Key Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The duties and responsibilities include the following, though other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Positions Chamber to readily develop policies that will positively impact on the business community through relationships with elected officials and key stakeholders
  • Develop legislative agenda and advocate for priority issues at all levels of government
  • Represents the DRC in high-level discussions with government officials in meetings, public hearings and events
  • Facilitate and mange high-level engagement with DRC Board members and elected officials
  • Work with and motivate business and community leaders to accomplish the DRC’s policy goals
  • Provide regular updates to the DRC CEO, Executive Committee, and Board on federal, state, and local legislation, issues, and developments, along with recommendations for appropriate DRC actions
  • Manages staff and department budget to ensure optimum program success and efficiency through direct involvement in daily program activities.
  • Interacts and works with other Chamber management for the purpose of organizational synergy and accomplishment of organization-wide goals and objectives, including revenue goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required and five to eight years related experience and/or training.
  • Master’s degree or other professional degree preferred.
  • Professional and comprehensive experience in an applicable field and/or with an organization that is similar in mission and activities to the DRC.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversees the Public Policy team, which may include a Coordinator, Manager, Director, Managing Director, and Vice President.
