Head of Family Office

Job Details

Legal Address - Krause Group LTD - Des Moines, IA
Full Time

Description

Our family office is embedded within our principal's operating business, which serves as the parent company for a diverse portfolio of businesses located in the United States and abroad. Over the past decade, our family office has played a crucial role in managing family affairs, particularly servicing the lifestyle and concierge needs of our principals. However, following the sale of our family's primary operating business in 2023, our family office is undergoing a significant transformation, including a desire to scale, and become a sustainable, multi-generational family office for future generations. Our rising generation family members currently range in age from their late 20s to late 30s and are beginning to have families of their own. This period of renewal provides a unique opportunity to redefine the office's structure and objectives with a fresh perspective. We are dedicated to making a significant impact on society and the environment. This commitment is guided by our strong belief in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Head of Family Office, reporting directly to the principals, will lead our family office, ensuring alignment with the family's purpose, values, and goals. This role oversees all family office operations, including administrative, compliance, and personal services. The Head of Family Office will also manage a series of immediate strategic initiatives intended to operationalize our future state family office, such as refinement of the family constitution, establishing governance structures, implementing service offerings, and defining workflows.

The Head of Family Office will also serve as the primary contact for the principals and be responsible for providing exceptional service and seamless delivery of their family office and of their lifestyle services. To support broader family strategic planning and decision-making, the Head of Family Office will also sit on the Krause Family Office Advisory Board.

The Head of Family Office will need to be hands-on within our agile, lean family office, collaborating closely with personnel and service providers to develop governance, policies, procedures, and operating procedures for the family office. This role will also integrate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the family office's strategic initiatives.

There are six key themes which guide the purpose and future direction of the family office:

  1. Foster family unity and deeper personal connections by minimizing business discussions and delegating responsibilities to the family office and governance structures.
  2. Support current and future generations with formal and ongoing education in stewardship, financial literacy, wealth management, and the role of the family office.
  3. Establish clear and consistent policies, processes, and communication channels within the family office.
  4. Align the family to leverage their wealth for positive contributions to the world, reflecting their collective desire to make a meaningful societal impact locally, domestically, and globally.
  5. Preserve and grow the family legacy across generations by balancing immediate wealth benefits for current members with a long-term focus on sustaining future generations through responsible stewardship.
  6. Implement legal and operational governance structures that support a multi-generational family enterprise. Clarify decision-making processes, trustee roles, communication protocols, and provide for equitable treatment within agreed-upon frameworks.
