- Maintain sound supervision and ensuring the safety of program participants at all times.
- Deliver educational programs collaborating with DOE teachers.
- Deliver, recreational and cultural programs to develop community and explore the after-school theme through art, games, and a performance project.
- Supervise youth and participate in all activities by building positive relationships with youth and peers, serving as a role model with respect to demeanor, communication, behavior and the organization’s mission, philosophy, and goals.
- Work with children on developmental and emotional issues; encourage program participation and social skills development.
- Display or provide opportunity to exhibit children’s work.
- Teach and supervise organized games and assist the activity specialist, escort groups to and from activity areas and field trips.
- Enforce program rules, identify & respond to participant behavior issues, and carry out corrective action when needed by identifying and seeking to resolve conflicts and behavioral problems.
- Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Program Director.
- Know and enforce ALL emergency procedures and follow all safety guidelines associated with all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your children’s safety and their whereabouts at all times.
- Inform supervisor of any noteworthy incidents occurring during program time.
- Distribute and supervise daily lunch time.
- Ensure all children are picked up by appropriate adults.
- Attend staff training, weekly meetings, case conferences, and supervision meetings.
- Submit weekly lesson plans and schedules.
- Other duties as required and assigned by Program Director, ADED and/or DED.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Some experience is required but one (1) or more years of experience preferred working with kids in groups.
- High School Diploma/GED preferred.
- Must have ability to work collaboratively.
- Must be able to pass a Fingerprint Screen, Sex Offender Registry and be physically able to work with children (via a doctor’s signed consent including TB screening)
- Complete 5-hour online training in Foundations in Health and Safety
- CPR/First Aid Certification a plus
- Computer Literacy; Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google Suite (Gmail, Google docs, sheets, slides)
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Must be able to follow curriculum.
- Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!
- Create and able to implement plans for group participation.
- Effectively supervise children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
