The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is seeking a motivated, driven, and collaborative individual to join our General Collections team as an Associate Director of Facilities and Project Management.

Job Title: Associate Director of Facilities and Project Management

Department: General Collections

Reports To: Director of Living Collections, Maintenance and Exhibits

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation:  Anticipated Salary of $80,000 per year, plus a comprehensive benefit package, which includes medical, dental, vision, life and LTD insurance, FSA, HRA, 403(b) retirement plan, paid holidays, personal business, sick leave, and vacation.

 

 

Summary

The Associate Director position oversees both the Maintenance Supervisor and the Exhibits Supervisor positions. This position also supervises the Maintenance Record Keeper position.

 

Works in conjunction with the Director of Living Collections, Exhibits and Maintenance to direct all functions of the Maintenance and Exhibits departments including goal and project timeline setting, evaluating department activities, and collaborating with department staff.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Act as the museum project manager for most new construction and/or major renovations projects. The position will be the main point of contact with architects, engineers and designers related to major projects at the museum.
  • Assist with management and updating the 5-year maintenance plan of the Museum.
  • Involved in the execution and planning of the new master plan for the museum.
  • Prepare or review reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjust work schedules as indicated by reports.
  • Provide the most accurate estimates for manpower, materials and equipment costs.
  • Set benchmarks for effective monitoring of construction progress.
  • Familiar with the process to obtain all licenses and building permits for projects.
  • Review contract plans and specifications for compliance with appropriate building codes and project requirements.
  • Work with appropriate supervisor to evaluate the allocation of internal resources.
  • Perform annual evaluations of staff and work with supervisors to make sure all deadlines are met.
  • Manage budget for the construction/renovation projects; responsible for the financial planning of a project.
  • Work with supervisors to prepare and oversee department and capital budgets.
  • Work directly with museum managers to make sure the internal customers are informed and supported by the museum system of work order.
  • Make sure the museum uses the most appropriate sustainable practices in new constructions and renovations.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises three to six employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Associate’s degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; and three to five year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer and Other Skills

Ability to learn a Payroll system in required. Should be able to work with Outlook, Spreadsheet and Word processing software. Ability to create and navigate budget accounting applications. Ability to navigate project management software such as MS Project or equivalent. Ability to navigate design software such as Sketch Up or equivalent. Ability to read and generate Gantt chart to share timeline with other managers. Able to go through blue print with Architects, Engineers and Designer to represent museum interest in design and final documents.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • A valid Arizona driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Wastewater Level 1 and Level 2 desired but not required.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
