Description

POSITIONS SUPERVISED:  Academic Affairs; Student Affairs; Dean of the College of Chiropractic; Dean of the College of Health Sciences; Dean of Students; Registrar; and any other position(s) assigned by the President.

 

SUMMARY: Reporting to the President, the Provost is the Chief Academic Officer of the University and provides leadership to all academic and student affairs staff, ensuring their work reflects the mission of the institution. The Provost is an advocate for all academic programs, providing leadership to faculty and academic staff to ensure consistent quality standards in curriculum and programs that meet the needs of students. The Provost oversees the academic integrity of the University and provides leadership in long-range planning, budgeting, curriculum, and program development. The Provost ensures compliance with various accreditation agencies as well as state accreditation and regulation. The Provost serves as Chief Executive Officer for the University in the absence of the President.

 

The Provost shall:

  • Provide leadership for all academic programs and works with the College of Chiropractic and College of Health Sciences deans and faculty to
    • facilitate appropriate program development.
    • ensure systematic program review to ensure quality and current course content.
    • formulate, maintain, and implement a high-quality curriculum.
  • Provide leadership in matters of academic policy and administration and regularly advise the President on these matters.
  • Provide collaborative leadership with the members of Cabinet and related college councils to provide administrative support in the development of operational processes and procedures that will affect both college and system-level strategic direction. Performs other duties as assigned commensurate to the position.
  • Coordinate with the College Deans and approve the hiring, support, development, and evaluation of faculty, staff, and administrators of instructional programs and services.
  • Coordinate with the College Deans and approve the assigning of courses and non-instructional assignments to full and part-time faculty.
  • Encourage and support research, grant-writing, publishing, and other faculty scholarly activities.
  • Ensure that diverse voices are represented within the context of shared governance.
  • Work with direct reports to plan, develop, and implement the annual budget for the academic and student affairs divisions of the University; approve expenditures.
  • Coordinate accreditation efforts and prepare reports for various accrediting agencies.
  • Coordinate with the CFO to make effective and efficient use of and plan for facilities.
  • Coordinate with the College Deans on the preparation of the class schedules each trimester; approves the final class schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Cabinet, College Deans, the compilation of information for the published catalog; coordinate the publishing of the catalog.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources for professional development activities for the University.
  • serves as ex-officio member of administratively appointed academic committees.
  • Ensures communication with faculty by working closely with the Presiding Office of the Faculty Senate to promote quality and shared faculty governance.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by the President.

Qualifications

COMPETENCIES:  To perform the job successfully, an individual must have strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership, and communication skills. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  This position requires a first professional/doctoral degree, extensive experience in higher education, and academic leadership with a clear, focused commitment to teaching, learning, and academic excellence to promote student success. The ideal candidate will have prior experience integrating academic and student affairs strategic objectives, having demonstrated outcomes resulting from that synergy. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader who inspires staff, students, and the community and possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills and good judgment; the ability to formulate and articulate sound policies and the demonstrated ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide range of administrative and human resource issues with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities; a strong understanding of current issues and future directions in higher education; and strong organizational and management skills.

 

As a member of the Cabinet, the provost is required to be highly ethical, trustworthy, credible, loyal, and respectful of diverse views and opinions. The provost should be collegial, approachable, and accessible and able to delegate responsibility and authority while maintaining accountability.
