Job Summary

The Systems Engineer position is part of a collaborative team that demonstrates the highest level of technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security.  Responsibilities include solutions for incidents, requests, completing project based technical assignments, documentation and general well-being of the network(s), servers, and surrounding and supporting infrastructure including data center power and air conditioning, wiring closets, remote access for users and vendors, diagnostic tools, monitoring tools, deployment tools, and security systems. Identifying opportunities for ensuring a positive technical experience to FHN Team Members.

As a member of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team, this position provides technical guidance to other members of the ITS team and support teams that require hardware and software services.  The position provides analysis and resolves complex technical issues escalating to hardware and software support as necessary.

Job Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions.
  • Perform testing of new operating system software prior to implementation.
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks.
  • Monitors and maintains installed systems and networks within a multiple system domain environment in a quality manner to give the end users the most optimal and secure experience possible in a 24 hour, 7 day per week, 365 days per year healthcare services environment.
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
  • Design, implement, and support server infrastructure including physical servers, virtual servers, virtualization technologies, and infrastructure support tools.
  • Manage, support, and maintain server hardware, operating systems, and software in a primarily Windows-based environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles, practices and techniques used in the installation, maintenance, support and management of routers, switches, wireless, firewalls, network monitoring, network management and intrusion detection hardware and software.
  • Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP network architecture.
  • Strong configuration knowledge of Cisco Routers and Switches, Cisco ASA Firewalls, Netscaler load balancers, and Aruba switches.
  • Provide support for data center operations.
  • Perform administration tasks in Active Directory.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Lead disaster recovery planning and testing, including backups and restores.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Manages project work to completion in an acceptable time frame and documents the task in a manner that allows others to understand the goal, choices, and final design of the installation in the future.
  • Evaluates customer requests for information and/or information systems using an approved project management approach.
  • Work with users at various level of the organization to determine requirements for operational needs and information processing options.
  • Perform continual assessment of available hardware/operating system enhancements and requirements to facilitate continued improvements in software capability as required to meet the goals prioritized by FHN.
  • Support vendor applications systems in server environments.
  • Assure existing systems are functioning properly and processing effectively according to the objectives.
  • Analyze and use available tools to provide status reports to Management.
  • Assist faculty and management staff in the analysis of Information Systems options to meet research and educational needs as it relates to server and network technology.
  • Coordinate with other team members and preparing for implementation of new applications.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred

Required Experience: 3 – 5 years prior IT Systems experience preferred
