How You Will Make an Impact

The Curriculum Instruction Specialist (CIS) will work collaboratively with his/her content area team, under the guidance and supervision of the Curriculum Instruction Coordinator, to develop, revise, and support the implementation of curriculum throughout the Organization scope. Additionally, the CIS will collaborate with Organizational education stakeholders on the development, implementation and ongoing support of curriculum benchmarks and other student academic performance assessments, tools and/or programs. The CIS is to maintain regular contact with the CDE and other agencies with regard to standards and other pertinent issues, disseminating information regarding standards or policy changes. Lastly, the CIS will be experienced and adept at providing teachers with instructional support and professional learning opportunities focusing on improving and increasing teachers' efficacy and capacity. The ability to create professional development and training materials and presentations is necessary in combination with excellent presentation skills.

  • Coordinate planning, designing, and development of course content and assessments
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to seek out and design innovative learning materials for students
  • Focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding about researched-base effective instruction
  • Review course and content data making recommendations regarding revisions
  • Coordinate the instructional materials adoption process
  • Maintain professional membership(s) and disseminate appropriate information from national and state organizations as well as from the CDE
  • Research new and innovative curriculum practices
  • Stay current with curricular trends and standards changes by maintaining professional memberships, attending conferences, and maintaining regular communication with the CDE
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others
  • Provide advice and counsel for teachers and principals on matters pertaining to instruction
  • Plan and implement curriculum/instruction staff development programs for school staff
  • All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established
  • Administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities may be assigned or changed from time to time

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional group presentation skills Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with a variety of staff and other professionals
  • Skill in conflict resolution
  • Open to change and willing to be involved in the change process

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid California teaching credential
  • College degree, preferred Master degree
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Three years of site or department leadership/curriculum development preferred

TRAVEL: Ability to travel is required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mental Demands: high workflow management, high project coordination.
  • Finger Dexterity: using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Average Hearing: able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average Visual Abilities: ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery.
  • Physical Strength: sedentary work. Sitting most of the time, and occasionally exerts up to 10 lbs. of force (almost all office jobs).
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required.
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures.
