Job Summary

Assist surgical team before, during, and after surgery.

Job Responsibilities

 

Other duties may be assigned.

Scrub person/technician.

Opens and readies room for first A.M. case.

Passes instruments, assists with retractors.

Provides relief to other staff.

Troubleshoots equipment.

Exhibits a commitment of exemplary customer service.

Participates in the communication network with appropriate members of the health care team.

Counts sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation.

Displays competency for age specific persons from newborn to geriatrics.

Participates in precepting surgical tech students and new employees.

Displays competency for the Surgical Technologist role as evidenced in the annual performance appraisal following the FHN PRIDE Standards.

Provides indirect supervision for nursing assistants.

Qualifications

Requirements

Education: Graduate of Surgical Technological Program or related OJT with six to twelve months related experience.

Required Experience: 6-12 months

Licensure/Certification/Registration:  

                                        Surgical Technologist Certificate Program required. Must be obtained within 18 months of hire

                                        Associate degree Preferred, BLS required

  • Late Childhood: 5 years and <13 years
  • Adolescent: 13 to <17 years

  • Older Adult: >60 years

 

While performing this job, the employee does not care for patients in the following age groups.

  • Neonate: <30 days
  • Serves patients in areas other than patient care.
  • No responsibility to treat or care for patients.
