PURPOSE
Contribute to the overall success of Matrix Design by contributing to the successful completion of automation systems that solve the complex problems of our customers.

OVERVIEW
The Automation Engineer contributes to the successful design, engineering, build-out, runoff, and commissioning of projects by collaboratively contributing to the success of the Project Team from start to finish for each project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Be a Great Team Player

    • Work collaboratively with the Automation Engineering Manager and fellow members of the Automation Team to produce great automation solutions
    • Willingness to stay late, come in early, and travel to customer locations to finish the job
  2. Provide Customers with Excellent Service
    • In-House
      • Approve reach studies and simulations for robotic systems
      • Develop software for robotic systems
      • Design and develop applications for vision systems
      • Develop systems and layouts that follow lean manufacturing philosophies
      • Collaborate with Project Teams by contributing to all phases of project design, development, and build out
      • Manage automation gameplans for the timely completion of systems
      • Ensure the system meets RIA and ANSI safety specifications
      • Responsible for system startup, implementation, and validation of customer requirements
    • In-the-Field
      • Manage system installation
      • Develop and implement improvements to existing automation in mechanical assembly and inspection processes
      • Work closely with customers and vendors to resolve issues and provide technical support
      • Willingness to travel up to 50%
  3. Seek Innovative Ways to Improve the Matrix Way
    • Provide solutions to significantly improve existing products or processes

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3 – 5 Years Experience as Manufacturing Automation Engineer
  • BS in Engineering or equivalent
  • Lean manufacturing practices
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • 2-3 Years Experience with PLCs, low voltage controls, three-phase power distribution, vision systems, electronic sensors, pneumatics, and robotics
  • Design and application knowledge of ergonomic and machine safety standards
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Solidworks, and MS Office suite
  • Strong Communication skills (written and verbal)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Contribute 45 hours per week on average
  • Able to work in an office and manufacturing floor environment
  • Regularly required to sit, reach, grasp, stand, and move from one area to another
  • Regularly required to work in constricted parts of machine cells
  • Constant and repeated use of keyboard and mouse
  • Occasionally required to push, pull, bend, lift, and move up to 50lbs
