Lifeguard – Albany or Schenectady, NY
Starting rate is $22 per hour! Ideal seasonal position with flexible schedule from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend. Daytime and early evening hours on weekdays and/or weekends.
The Parsons and Northeast residential programs are seeking full-time and part-time Lifeguards to work out of either our Albany or Schenectady campus (applicants may choose their preferred location). Our Lifeguards provide rescue and lifesaving services, teach water safety and swim instruction to children and adolescents in program during the summer months, and help maintain our pools for optimal health and safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and maintain order in the swimming pool area to prevent accidents
- Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning, administering first aid as needed
- Inspect the swimming facilities at the beginning and end of each shift for cleanliness; monitor and record the chlorine content and pH level of the water
- Provide students with ongoing swimming instruction based on ability level
- Hold students and staff accountable to the rules of the pool area and report any concerns with adherence of these rules to a Residential Supervisor
- Work as needed in other areas of the recreational department during inclement weather
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires an Advance Life Saving certificate or equivalent (must be a certified Lifeguard)
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience working with children and adolescents and the ability to understand the basics of the therapeutic environment preferred
