As a Licensed Pharmacist with Virginia Health Services, You will provide much-needed care to those in skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living communities, as VPS long-term care pharmacy services provider, you have the chance to provide compassionate, supportive care to patients throughout the continuum of care. This position will be Monday-Friday, 11am-3pm, 20 hours per week, with weekends and holidays off. You must have an active Pharmacist license in good standing, with previous retail experience. Pharmacy Manager experience is prefered but not required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Verify & dispense prescription medications prescribed by physicians and other healthcare practitioners. Provide drug intervention to nursing staff regarding patients’ medications including drug interactions, side effects, and other questions related to patients’ medications/supplements.
•   To perform all duties required and allowed by the Virginia board of pharmacy for a pharmacist.
•   To perform all duties of the pharmacist that are required by Virginia Pharmaceutical Services.
•   Review prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability.
•   To follow all state and federal laws and regulations during the normal course of performing your daily job.
•   Provide information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
•   Order dose calculation where necessary.
•   Technician supervision, and training.Â
•   Communication with long term care facilities to facilitate proper medication delivery.
•   Supervision of delivery personnel and physical delivery.
•   Inventory Control and Accountability for Control meds as well as non-controlled meds.
•   Control medication monthly and yearly audits.
•   Insurance adjudication to ensure proper payment of medications and contact insurance companies to resolve billing issues.
•   To make sure that all medication orders are filled in a timely manner so that deliver can be accomplished to the long term care facility.
•   Dispensing or supervising the dispensation of medications and related supplies, according to physicians' prescriptions.
•   Compounding medications, and IV sterile preparation.Â
•   Overseeing daily ordering, as well as automatic refills.Â
•   Recommending drug therapy changes when appropriate.
•   Ensuring the pharmacy complies with all local, state, and federal regulations. Maintains confidential information, documentation, and assigned records as required by Company policies, and local, State, and Federal guidelines.
•   Plan, implement or maintain procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
•   Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of all e-PHI.Â
•   To maintain an active license in Virginia, pharmacists are required to obtain a minimum of 15 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education (CE) per calendar year, at least three of which must be from courses or programs that are live or real-time interactive.
