Job Summary

The Mammogram Technologist is responsible for independently performing a variety of complex and specialized procedures such as screening and diagnostic mammograms under general supervision.

Essential Job Functions

  • Patient Assessment - Perform patient interviews to gather medical history and relevant information, ensuring patient safety and proper procedure planning. Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented. Position patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality images for interpretation.
  • Equipment Setup - Prepare and calibrate mammography equipment and ensure daily and weekly quality control measures are taken.
  • Imaging Procedures and Optimization - Conduct mammograms using various techniques and mammographic views. Adjust equipment settings to obtain clear and accurate images, optimizing image quality and ensuring diagnostic value. Works closely with the radiologists to perform proper diagnostic testing when abnormalities are identified.
  • Data Analysis - Analyze acquired images and recordings to identify abnormalities, measurements, and anomalies in the breast. Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Documentation - Maintain detailed records of procedures, patient information, and image data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Communication - Collaborate with radiologists to discuss findings and help in the development of treatment plans and diagnoses. Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record orders from physicians in the patient record.
  • Quality Assurance - Comprehends and complies with Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks. Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to the modality, including MQSA and ACR.
  • Compliance - Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, policies, and protocols, including HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Maintains adherence to all company policies related to Compliance.

Qualifications

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Education

  • Associate's degree or higher in mammography or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and breast pathophysiology.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in outpatient diagnostic imaging facility or hospital required.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • ARRT Registered in Mammography.
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist ARRT Registered Technologist 
  • BLS Certification.

  • Follows established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation including FDA MQSA guidelines and ACR guidelines.

Physical Demands
