Job Summary

The Senior Risk Management Specialist USA shall report directly to the USA Chief Compliance Officer. The role’s primary responsibility is to identify, quantify, monitor and make suggestions to help mitigate the types of risks that could affect the Company’s financial health, legal compliance or reputation, in conjunction with the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. Their duties include chairing the Risk Committee, communicating with company leadership personnel, Department Leaders or legal staff, reviewing operational procedures, employee data or market trends and presenting their findings to upper management personnel. This role will be supporting an established ERM framework to advance the ERM governance structure.

  • Implement support and promote the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management design, practices, and policies to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor Sanitas USA risks.
  • Work at all levels of Sanitas USA, to implement and promote the ERM program, providing clear and replicable methods for recognizing and assessing risks across the organization.
  • Monitor and assess compliance with ERM reporting.
  • Participate in risk assessment activities for new projects, products, mergers and acquisitions, including any addition or modification to Sanitas USA products and services, and the organizational structure.
  • With the support from the CCO, manage the insurance program including the relationship with brokers and carriers, helping to process claims, gather data and complete applications for policy renewals.
  • Support the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) for the organization as it relates to identified risks.
  • Work with the Global Chief Risk Officer to maintain Risk vision and Global Risk Policies approved by Global Risk Committee, including collaboration between risk practices among countries
  • Review and analyze investigation reports, tracking, trending and reporting of safety events and incident reports; participate in root cause analysis exercises;
  • Recommend corrective action strategies and initiatives based on Company policy and best practices;
  • Interact with defense counsel on litigation matters to provide requested information, documents and records; organize depositions
  • Review and summarize medical records involving treatment related to safety events and incidents;
  • Formulate risk identification, trending, assessment, reduction and remediation strategies;
  • Develop, revise and implement policies to ensure compliance with current standards and practices related to ERM and safety matters;
  • Look into patient complaints which involve risk or potential litigation issues;
  • Investigate general liability incidents involving Sanitas USA and affiliated entities;
  • Provide staff with guidance and education on risk policies and initiatives;
  • Work with Human Resources to collect analysis regarding employee incidents resulting in injury;
  • Prepare documents for liability insurance carriers regarding claims and potential claims;
  • Chair the Risk Committee and participate in the Patient Safety and Compliance Committees.
  • Helps coordinate communicates with health professionals, defense counsel and others regarding investigations and resolution of incidents and potential claims involving patients.

Qualifications

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Education

Associate or bachelor’s degree or 6-8 years equivalent experience in a health care setting performing risk management duties.

Required Experience

Minimum of ten (10) years of prior relevant experience working in a health care setting performing risk management duties.

 

Required Licenses and Certifications

Related professional certification such as CISA, CISSP, CIA, CRM, CHRM or equivalent or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.

  • Capability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Capacity to break down a issues into components using problem-solving techniques
  • Communicate data to analytical team for analysis, issues and control recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills that deliver quality, actionable, and impactful feedback to management on potential control issues and solutions to close gaps.
  • Significant experience reporting to the C-suite.
  • Ability to evaluate and determine the adequacy of controls.

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and motivated to take the initiative to understand the business and processes.
