Qualifications

Position Summary:

The Regional Medical Director is responsible for the coordination and oversight of all medical care and quality of services provided at the regional level. Serves as a member of the Administrative Management Staff and will collaborate with the CEO and Executive Leadership on the development of services and program plans as well as delivery sites and hours of operation to be offered. Ensures proper functioning of day–to-day operations of the centers, in coordination with local medical directors and center staff, to provide consistent quality of care to patients of the center. This role may also provide delivery of medical services to patients of the Center.

  1. Provides leadership for a number of activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services such as cost management, utilization review and quality assurance.

  2. Collaborates in the development and periodic review of written clinical policies, guidelines and protocols for the functioning of the clinic and responsibilities of the clinicians. 

  3. Works closely with insurance plan to meet defined clinical goals.

  4. Leads the development and implementation of the disease management programs and supervises risk coding.

  5. Participates in the recruitment and selection process for medical provider staff.

  6. Plans, assigns, and directs work; assesses and appraises provider performance.

  7. Collaborates with the management team in ensuring the viability of the organization through the oversight of provider productivity; development of the annual budget; maintaining thorough evaluation of clinic goals and budgets; and participation as a member of the administrative management team.

  8. Develops and presents clinic performance reports to Joint Venture leadership. 

  9. Assumes responsibility for quality of medical services rendered to patients by monitoring quality and appropriateness of care.

  10. Provides supervision of continuing professional education, in-service training and orientation of new medical staff.

  11. Provides key input to the development of care delivery policies and procedures.

  12. Oversees documentation and care planning.

  13. Performs periodic review of practice management functions.

  14. Assures a high standard of medical care by reviewing results of patient satisfaction surveys; reviews clinical patient complaints.

  15. Maintains OSHA, ACHA, emergency preparedness, infection control and regulatory compliance for the clinics.

  16. Provides professional oversight for advanced practice nurses (ARNP) and/or physician assistants (PAs)

  17. Handles physician behavior and impairment issues.

  18. Analyzes, manages and develops improvement plans for adverse events as well as patient complains/issues that arise from medical care.

  19. May deliver direct patient care within the clinic scope of practice.

  20. Perform other duties as assigned by executive team.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

        This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to work standing up, walk, use hands to operate tools and equipment and must be able to exert regularly up to 10 pounds of force, frequently exert 30 pounds of force and occasionally exert 50 pounds of force to constantly perform the essential job functions. The employee will be frequently required to reach with hands and arms, bend, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and pull. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The worker is subject to noise; there may be sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine.

  2. Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the selected state.

  3. Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described including related work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience     

  1. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  2. At least 3 years of experience as a primary care clinic Medical Director.

  3. Board certified in one of the primary care specialties.

  4. At least two years of experience working with multi-cultural patient population delivering patient-centered programs that are high quality and cost effective.
