The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for assisting and supporting the individuals in carrying out their daily routines, their daily schedules of activities and their individual programs. The DSP is also responsible for implementing all specific clinical and educational and vocational programs. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to data collection, reading and writing in daily logs and participation in program design.

  • Implementation of clinical, educational and vocational programs on a daily basis, as indicated and/or scheduled for the individuals.
  • Assists in carrying out tasks and/or daily routines. Follows the established daily schedules of activities including participation in recreational activities as scheduled.
  • Observes and records accurate and reliable data for programs as established in the educational plan for the individual.
  • Reads the daily log for an update on the current and procedural and programmatic information. Signs off upon completion. Makes appropriate entries in the log, as needed.
  • Participates with other team members in performing all tasks necessary to maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Follows established cleaning schedules in the particular location.
  • Reports or records repair needs when necessary. Maintains a safe environment at all times, e.g. ensure all egresses and walkways are free of snow and ice during winter months.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings and other required program planning meetings.
  • Maintains positive and accurate communication throughout all work responsibilities. Works as an active and constructive team member in all duties.
  • Will assist in transport of individuals to activities as assigned; will be asked to drive company vehicles.
  • Attends, completes, and maintains all required trainings and certifications.
  • Observes and safeguards individual’s human rights.
  • Assumes other specific responsibilities as deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the individuals.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all individuals and will periodically work in other program locations at the request of a manager.
  • Record all necessary data. Follow principles of PBS (Positive Behavior Supports).
  • Follows the appropriate chain of command, reporting all necessary information to supervisor.
  • Maintains the necessary MAP Certification. Will dispense medication as needed. Follows established systems to ensure quality health care of the individuals. Responsible for maintaining all required trainings and certifications.
  • Maintains good communication skills (oral and written) with co-workers, administrative staff, individuals, families and caseworkers

Qualifications

 A minimum of a high School diploma or equivalency is required. College degree or previous experience is preferred. An active and valid Driver’s license is also required.
