Position Purpose: Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton seeks an experienced, dedicated, and mission-aligned administrator to serve as Boys Athletic Director. This is a full-time, 10-month position responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the SHP Boys Athletics program for grades 9–12.
The Boys Athletic Director plays a critical role in advancing the school’s mission by overseeing a high-achieving, character-driven athletic program rooted in Sacred Heart values. Working in close collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Athletics, this position ensures that the boys’ athletic programs meet the highest standards of excellence in competition, integrity, and student development.

Specific Expectations for 100% FTE Coaches, Administrators and Staff in the Prep Athletic Department assigned to 10, 11 and 12 month schedules: In addition to duties and essential job functions listed in job descriptions, the following responsibilities are expected of all employees in the Prep Athletics Department assigned to 10, 11 and 12-month schedules:
- Attend the following events: Graduation, Convocation, Prep Coaches Meetings (Coaches and AD’s), Senior Athlete Exit Interviews (Head Coaches), End-of-Season Individual Athlete Meetings (Head Coaches), League Sport Meetings (Head Coaches), Mentoring Time (Head Coaches) – up to 2 hours/week in-season and out-of-season (not to conflict with faculty office hours and can be by phone if cleared with AD in advance), Director’s Day/Campus Safety, Open House, Freshmen Welcome Night, Seasonal Sports Parents Meetings, Coaches Seasonal Workshops, All-School Masses and Espacios.
- Professional development as required by your supervisor, work beyond your regular hours when required by your supervisor, and attendance at, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events as directed by your supervisor.
- All non-exempt employees are required to accurately track their time and their paid time off in the payroll system.
*The agreement period for employees working 10, 11 and 12-month schedules remains as stated even in the case that the duty schedule is shifted to accommodate the sports season. Â All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. In the case you are required to work outside of your normal work schedule; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.

Essential Functions
- Provide leadership and supervision for all SHP boys’ athletic programs across the school year, including:
- Fall: Cross Country (COED), Football, Boys Water Polo
- Winter: Boys Basketball, Boys Soccer
- Spring: Baseball, Boys Golf, Boys Lacrosse, Boys Tennis
- Hire, support, and evaluate head and assistant coaches across all boys’ sports
- Organize and schedule all practices, competitions, team travel, and facility use for SHP boys’ teams in collaboration with other athletic administrators.
- Supervise home athletic contests and manage all aspects of game-day operations, including staffing, setup, officials, crowd management, and post-event responsibilities.
- Confirm and coordinate official assignments for all home contests using Arbiter; serve as primary point of contact for assignors and officials for boys’ athletics.
- Coordinate transportation logistics for boys’ teams, including bus reservations, driver assignments, and travel schedules.
- Manage and update the SHP Athletics website and calendar with accurate scheduling, results, team information, and program highlights.
- Oversee boys’ team equipment and uniform inventory, including seasonal distribution and collection, storage, and reordering as needed.
- Coordinate and distribute coaches’ gear and support team spirit pack orders in collaboration with vendors and staff.
- Track and submit timecards for all boys’ coaches and student workers; ensure timely payroll processing and budget tracking.
- Lead planning and execution of seasonal athletic awards ceremonies, college signing celebrations, and other recognition events for boys’ teams and student-athletes.
- Serve as a consistent and visible presence at SHP boys’ athletic events, actively supporting student-athletes, coaches, and families.
- Collaborate closely with the Girls Athletic Director and broader athletics team to ensure seamless communication, shared facility usage, and unified program standards.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience in athletic administration and/or coaching within an independent school environment.
- A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart and model professional behavior based on it.
- Well-rounded knowledge of physical conditioning methods.
- A valid First Aid Certificate from the American Red Cross, including CPR training.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
- Ability to work successfully and peacefully with all constituents.
- Excellent punctuality and attendance.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, kneeling, and climbing stairs.
- Work in varied indoor and outdoor environments including fields, training rooms, offices and varied weather including extreme heat and cold.
- Fast-paced, student-centered setting requiring mental and physical resilience.
- Must comply with all vaccination and health requirements.
