As a key member of the executive management team, the CFO will lead the Finance Department and oversee the fiscal operations of LifeSTEPS, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with regulatory standards. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position plays a vital role in advancing our vision, driving efficiency, and promoting collaboration across the organization.

This position is based at our corporate office in Sacramento, California, where regular engagement is essential to foster strong relationships and unity within our team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic financial leadership and partner with the Executive Director on long-term planning, initiatives, and decision-making.
  • Oversee the organization's fiscal operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, FASB guidelines, and other regulatory standards.
  • Lead and evaluate the Finance Department, implementing policies and systems to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Prepare and analyze budgets, financial reports, and trends to support executive and board decision-making.
  • Maintain compliance with contracts, agreements, audits, and regulatory expectations.
  • Support cross-departmental collaboration to ensure organizational success.
  • Manage banking relationships and develop cash flow projections to meet operational needs.
  • Supervise and mentor Finance Department staff, fostering professional growth and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • CPA or equivalent certification (strongly preferred).
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Familiarity with non-profit financial operations (preferred).
  • Expertise in strategic planning, budget management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
