Job Summary: The Extinguisher Shop Technician is responsible for providing support to the technicians, shop, & office working under the guidance of the Supervisor. The primary responsibilities include assisting in coordinating and executing tasks related to the business, with a focus on cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining DOT logs, managing inventory, and contributing to the optimization of customer satisfaction. This position involves hands-on technical tasks and collaboration with the Supervisor to ensure efficient operations within the Shop.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute to maintaining cleanliness and ensuring proper functioning of equipment & shop.
  • Support the maintenance of safety standards and processes.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels, transferring material, receiving material, organizing material, shipping material, & preparing material for pick up.
  • Inspect fire extinguishers to ensure they are in proper working condition and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Conducting tests to verify the functionality of fire extinguishers, including pressure testing, and checking the discharge mechanism.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as refilling extinguishers, replacing worn out parts, and recharging units after use.
  • Diagnosing and repairing malfunctioning fire extinguishers.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inspections, tests, maintenance activities, and repairs performed on each fire extinguisher.
  • Provide guidance to customers on fire extinguisher use, maintenance best practices, and fire safety procedures.
  • Ensure all fire extinguishers meet relevant safety standards and regulations set forth by authorities such as NFPA & OSHA
  • Monitor inventory levels of fire extinguishers and related equipment. Communicating low stock needs to purchasing departments.
  • Support the completion and uploading of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) forms for all Hydro Pit jobs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

What We are Looking For: 

  • Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
  • Florida State Specific Extinguisher License. (With in 90 days of employment)
  • Prior experience as a Fire Extinguisher Technician preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable and strong organizational skills
  • DOT Certification required. (With in 90 days of employment

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending and kneeling for extended periods
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, which would require use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices
  • Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
