Job Summary: Fire sprinkler apprentices assist senior technicians in the installation and service of fire sprinkler systems, while receiving on the job training.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation of fire sprinkler systems:
    • Handle tools and equipment under supervision.
    • Measure, cut, and thread pipes according to specifications.
    • Assist in the assembly and installation of pipes, valves, and fittings.
    • Support the mounting and positioning of sprinkler heads.
  • Collaborate with installation team:
    • Work closely with senior technicians to ensure efficient installation processes.
    • Follow instructions and guidelines provided by the team.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks.
  • Conduct pre-installation preparations:
    • Assist in reviewing blueprints and system designs.
    • Prepare the work area by clearing obstacles and ensuring accessibility.
    • Help gather necessary tools, materials, and equipment for the installation.
  • Follow safety guidelines and regulations:
    • Adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Comply with industry standards and local fire codes during installations.
    • Report any safety concerns or incidents to senior technicians.
  • Learn and develop technical skills:
    • Actively engage in training sessions and workshops related to fire sprinkler installation.
    • Familiarize yourself with different types of fire sprinkler systems and their components.
    • Seek guidance from senior team members to enhance your knowledge and skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a fire protection or plumbing vocational program is preferred.
  • 6 months fire sprinkler experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, pipefitting, or construction is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and system designs.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools commonly used in the industry
  • Strong observational skills to ensure accurate installation according to specifications.
  • Ability to follow instructions and guidelines precisely.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and use protective equipment.

 

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending and kneeling for extended periods
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, which would require use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices
  • Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
