Job Summary: Fire Alarm Apprentices are responsible for assisting senior technicians with inspections, testing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems and associated interface equipment. The Fire Alarm Apprentice will learn to install new fire alarm systems and perform routine inspections, scheduled repairs, and emergency service calls.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist and learn to perform routine service and maintenance tasks on fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. This includes inspecting, testing, cleaning components, and verifying system functionality.
  • Learn how to identify and diagnose issues with fire alarm systems. Troubleshoot and repair faulty components, wiring, and equipment to restore optimal system performance.
  • Assist in providing customer instruction on system operation and functionality.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients.
  • Understand and comply with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and follow all safety regulations and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in the fire/life safety industry or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical components is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools commonly used in the industry.
  • Ability to follow instructions and guidelines precisely.
  • Strong observational skills to ensure accurate installation according to specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and use protective equipment.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, which would require use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices
  • Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
