Job Summary: Assembly of Electrical Control Panels, Junction Boxes and some wire harnesses from prints. This position is responsible for the physical assembly, wiring and testing of control panels on various marine vessels. The Technician will fabricate controls to print, including layout and physical mounting of components to the back panel, wiring of all components, installation of control panel onto equipment, and testing to ensure proper operation. All duties must be performed in accordance with all company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Dimension and layout of back panels and enclosures for marine electrical systems, taking into account space constraints and environmental factors unique to shipboard installations 
  • Mount components to back panels and enclosures using marine-grade hardware and corrosion-resistant techniques to withstand maritime conditions
  • Route and bundle marine-grade wires and cables neatly to meet maritime wiring standards, ensuring proper securing against vessel movements and vibrations 
  • Perform point-to-point wiring of marine-specific components such as navigation system relays and controls, marine-grade PLCs and I/O modules, variable frequency drives (VFDs) for shipboard equipment, marine communication interfaces and nautical instrumentation and sensors
  •  Troubleshoot electrical panels and systems to eliminate wiring errors and component malfunctions, considering the impacts of salt air and moisture on electrical equipment 
  • Maintain accurate red line drawing mark-ups of changes required during fabrications, adhering to maritime documentation standards
  • Communicate red line changes to the Marine Systems Engineer or team lead for revision prior to completion, ensuring all modifications meet maritime safety regulations. 
  • Effectively communicate with all team members including, marine technicians, shipyard personnel, vessel builders, marine system engineers and project managers
  • Adapt to changing priorities and schedules often encountered in shipyard environments and during at-sea repairs. 
  •  Stay informed about the latest maritime electrical standards and regulations, incorporating them into installation and maintenance practices
  • Assist in the creation and updating of vessel-specific electrical system documentation for future maintenance and inspections. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

 

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For: 

  • 1+ years’ experience installing fire protection (or relatable) systems
  • Prefer candidates with related work experience in heavy industrial and/or marine setting
  • Must be able to read, understand and implement shop drawings
  • Great communication skills and the ability to work well with team
  • The ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • A high standard of quality and attention to detail.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and outdoor settings, which can potentially expose employees to noise, dust, heat stress, thermal stress, low light conditions, heights, etc.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces as needed, which would require use of fall protection equipment and other safety devices
  • Capable of using hand and power tools, including specialty tools resulting in cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening and other methods resulting in torque, vibration, noise, etc.
