Description

ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER

SCOPE

Skyland Trail is a nonprofit primary psychiatric residential treatment program for adults and adolescents. The adult residential treatment program located in Brookhaven/Atlanta, GA, treats adults ages 18+ with a mood, anxiety, or thought disorder.

The Adolescent Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for the adolescent psychiatric residential treatment program serves as a healthcare team member for one or more diagnosis-specific treatment tracks (i.e. CBT, DBT, cognition and first episode psychosis, social integration, and dual diagnosis). They will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, mental health therapists, nutritionists, vocational counselors, nurses, and residential staff. Alongside supervising psychiatrists, the nurse practitioner will help guide evidence-based, measurement-driven care. The Adolescent Nurse Practitioner at Skyland Trail will have frequent, in-depth communications with supervising psychiatrists and/or collaborate on patient visits to ensure the highest level of collaboration is maintained.

The Adolescent Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner serves as a primary provider for a caseload of adult patients enrolled in residential treatment, day treatment (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, providing medication management and psychotherapy. Residential and day treatment patients are seen weekly, and IOP patients are seen biweekly.

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for timely documentation of orders and session notes and for communicating changes in the treatment plan to the treatment team. They also participate in periodic consultation with patient families.

Of note, Skyland Trail Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners will be assigned other duties in the event that program census does not dictate a full patient visit volume. These other duties may include assistance with Skyland Trail’s Interventional Psychiatry assessments or treatment delivery, data collection and utilization, performance improvement, or other areas of organizational need. The Nurse Practitioner will be fully trained and supervised in these duties. Additional details are available on request.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Skyland Trail adolescent treatment program treats adults ages 14-17 with a primary mood or anxiety disorder. A typical length of stay for adults at the residential level of care is 10-12 weeks. Some clients continue treatment at the partial hospitalization level of care. Though struggling with their mental illness, Skyland Trail patients have entered treatment voluntarily, and clients and their families are engaged in their treatment program.

Skyland Trail campuses include gardens, private patient rooms, and common rooms that provide a therapeutic, healing environment for our clients and families. Clients participate in individual and group psychotherapy as well as expressive therapies, supported academic work, nutrition counseling, and fitness activities.

A key philosophy at Skyland Trail is that we expect our clients to get better. We help our clients identify their own goals for their future, and we help them develop the skills needed to pursue those goals in healthy and effective ways.

The Skyland Trail adult treatment program is an evidence-based treatment program that has earned The Joint Commission gold seal of approval since 1995.
