The Pension Boards Summer Internship Program is a ten-week paid internship that runs from June 2nd  to August 8th , 2025. Our exclusive program will engage and select the brightest students from some of the best colleges in New York and beyond to experience and delve into the Pension Boards’ core areas of work including Investments, Finance, Member Services, Information Technology, Internal Audit, Health Plans, Marketing and Communications. This opportunity provides students with:

Location – this program is a hybrid internship which is both virtual and based out of our NYC Location – 475 Riverside Drive, near Columbia University and Barnard College. The Pension Boards does not offer reimbursements for relocation, housing or commuting costs.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and expand your knowledge of Health Benefits Administration through our portfolio of self-funded health and welfare benefit plans
  • Participate in the health plan rate development process for 2025
  • Collaborate with our nationwide business vendor/partners to gain insight into preparation of benefit schedules, claims processing procedures, provider network development and contracting
  • Work with Health Plans Team to review and update website content regarding benefit plans
  • Complete a Research Paper: “Compare and Contrast:  Self-funded and Fully-Insured Health Plans” 
  • Work with cross functional teams to solve a business problem from ideation to launch
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with colleagues through attendance at scheduled meetings
  • Prepare materials for internal presentations, memos and projects
  • Perform other related duties as requested

Qualifications

What you’ll need:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration; or a Business/Finance Degree with Healthcare Administration or Human Resources concentration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think and work independently within a professional setting
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility to work within a multiple disciplinary team and receive dynamic on-the-job training

Organizational skills; ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
