 East Oakland Community Project (EOCP) is actively seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to make a difference for our unhoused neighbors as an EOCP Board Member.Â
This is a volunteer position with no salary or paid wages
About us
East Oakland Community Project’s story begins as a grassroots support network that evolved into a sustainable community resource. Thousands of people had recently been displaced from their homes due to the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, adding to the already existing crisis of minimal shelter for people experiencing homelessness in East Oakland. In response, the City of Oakland, Alameda County, and Mission Safe joined together to establish an emergency housing shelter that became known as the East Oakland Community Project. With a focus on our community in East Oakland, EOCP is the first line of defense for people experiencing homelessness.  We provide comprehensive and dignified services for what each person needs right now — we create a space of belonging and consistent support while they move towards realizing their long-term aspirations and growth.
Our Mission
EOCP empowers individuals and families who are homeless in Alameda County to regain a life of self-reliance. We provide dignified emergency and transitional housing and compassionate, comprehensive support services that prepare homeless people to successfully transition to well-being and sustainable permanent housing.
Responsibilities
Governance and Oversight: Provide fiduciary oversight and ensure the effective governance of our organization, ensuring transparency, accountability, and ethical practices.
Policy Development: Develops policy for the purposes of achieving goals, addressing issues, or setting new or improved standards of performance.
Impact Lives: Contribute directly to improving the lives of our participants and the greater EOCP community, supporting and expanding our programs, initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
Foster Community Partnerships: Build and nurture relationships with community leaders, stakeholders, and potential donors, expanding our reach and influence.
Encourage Professional Growth: Engage in meaningful networking opportunities and gain valuable insights and skills through your interactions with other accomplished individuals on the Board.
Time commitment: Â Meetings are either hybrid, virtual or on site on the third Wednesday of the month. Â Participation in committee(s) and work groups as needed.
