POSITION OVERVIEW:

Join La Familia Service TEAM and make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families in need. We are looking for a passionate clinician who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to develop their expertise in psychotherapy. The Staff Therapist will work under supportive leadership and operate under the guidance of the Program Supervisor and Program Manager, ensuring high-quality therapeutic services and professional growth. The successful candidate will also: 

  • Provide meaningful therapy – Offer individual, family, and group therapy for clients approved by Alameda County Behavioral Health Department (ACBHD) ACCESS, fostering healing and resilience.
  • Engage with the community – Lead psychoeducational workshops, participate in outreach events, and create safe spaces for those seeking support and connection.
  • Deliver well-rounded mental health services, including:
    • Crisis intervention and immediate support
    • Screening, assessment, and diagnosis
    • Person-centered and family-centered treatment planning
    • Outpatient mental health and substance use counseling
    • Psychiatric rehabilitation services
    • Peer and caregiver support programs
    • Services provided directly or through strategic partnerships
  • Collaborate for client success – Work closely with La Familia teams, key stakeholders, community organizations, county social workers, parents, and caregivers to ensure coordinated, effective care.
  • Support holistic wellness – Partner with primary care providers as needed to ensure a well-rounded approach to mental health and overall well-being.
  • Champion cultural responsiveness – Deliver high-quality, inclusive services that reflect the agency’s mission, vision, and values, creating a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

Direct Services:

  • Conducts comprehensive psychological assessments for assigned clients to determine appropriate evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Performs structured clinical interviews with clients and collateral contacts to collect pertinent diagnostic and therapeutic data.
  • Evaluates clients and families through structured intake processes, compiling detailed mental health assessments for initial diagnosis and contributing to individualized treatment planning within the Service TEAM framework.
  • Administers individual and group psychotherapy sessions in accordance with established monthly and annual performance objectives.
  • Engages families in the therapeutic process and delivers services in diverse settings, including clinics, client residences, and community venues, accommodating evening availability as needed to optimize accessibility.
  • Conducts ongoing therapeutic sessions with clients and families, providing psychoeducation on mental health conditions while addressing psychosocial, environmental, and economic determinants of wellness. Assists clients in formulating realistic, measurable, and attainable treatment objectives.
  • Establishes collaborative connections between clients and relevant community-based service providers, ensuring seamless "warm hand-offs" and diligently following up on both internal and external referrals to optimize continuity of care.
  • Develops and facilitates holistic, evidence-informed psychoeducational workshops in community settings to address emerging themes and client needs, promoting mental health literacy and community engagement.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Complies fully with agency policies and procedures and maintains HIPPA guidelines.
  • Submits records of service information and tracking consistent with program policies using electronic health records systems and agency systems.
  • Follows appropriate charting and documentation requirements and agency regulations in a timely manner and follows all database policies and procedures. 
  • Provides input and feedback on potential related projects/programs, as appropriate.
  • Supports agency-wide Quality Improvement efforts.

 

Clinical Services:

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient-centered care strategies.
  • Demonstrates expertise in evidence-based therapeutic interventions aligned with industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Utilizes clinical information systems to access and document pertinent client data, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and documentation protocols.
  • Provides culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate psychoeducation to clients and their families, recognizing the impact of environmental and sociocultural factors on mental health.
  • Develops and implements individualized, evidence-based intervention plans tailored to client needs and treatment goals.
  • Applies current research literature and clinical best practices to inform treatment strategies and decision-making processes.
  • Continuously evaluates the efficacy of interventions, modifying therapeutic approaches as necessary based on client progress and assessment outcomes.
  • Delivers services in clinic-based, community, and in-home settings to enhance accessibility and client engagement.

Other 

  • Attend trainings and participate in events relevant to key responsibilities
  • Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas
  • Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Possession of a graduate degree in social work, psychology, or a related mental health field, with active registration or licensure under the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) or Board of Psychology (BOP) (e.g., Ph.D., Psy.D., LCSW, LMFT, ASW, AMFT). Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited graduate program for mental health with at least 50% coursework completion are also considered.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is highly preferred.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of modern clinical psychology principles, including abnormal psychology, personality theory, diagnostic interviewing, psychotherapy (brief therapy and behavior change methodologies), case management, systems theory, family therapy, community psychology, and community mental health practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of an integrated healthcare team with flexibility to respond to evolving clinical and programmatic needs.
  • Competence in formulating differential diagnoses, selecting appropriate therapeutic techniques, and implementing individualized treatment plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across diverse populations and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record systems and administrative software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Salesforce or similar database applications.
  • Successful completion of background clearance requirements.
  • Prior experience in a non-profit or community-based mental health setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Capacity for independent judgment and decision-making while maintaining strict confidentiality and ethical considerations in handling sensitive client and organizational information.
  • Valid CA Driver’s license
